Sri Sri Thakur: People do in a hotchpotch manner and suffer. Without interfering with complexes like lust, anger, etc., people try to master it according to the call of their complexes. It is never to happen in this way. May be, he is butchering chicken for his greed but supporting it in many a ways.

Is there any dearth of stealing from the kingdom of thought process?

However, instead of bothering over the unrepelled attachment, if one always remains actively engaged with the superior beloved (prestho); then whatever is to happen, will happen.

The two events—Desire to establish the interest of Ista and sheltering of the complexes that bring hurdles in this path—do not go together.

Polygamy

Hindu Marriage Act prohibits Polygamy. But Hindu scriptures mention its practice and lays down certain guidelines on polygamy. Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra has advocated polygamy with scientific basis. The objective is better and higher progeny and upward social mobility.

A nation is considered to be progressive and civilized if its sex ratio at birth (number of females per 1000 males at birth) is more than 1000. It is also a fact that natural survival capability and longevity of females is more than males. So, unless a society wants a sizeable number of females to remain unmarried lifelong, it is a simple logic that a society has to practice polygamy. This bears more significance as motherhood symbolizes a successful womanhood.

Polygamy was banned since the period of Raghunandan, a scholar of 16^th Century AD. Sri Sri Thakur observes, ‘I sometimes think that Raghunandan was forced to do so under conspiracy and pressure from opposing forces. As a result of ban in polygamy, the expansion and power of absorption of Hindu society got hampered and there had been opportunity for some classes to grow in numbers. There had been many invasions on India before, but there is no way to trace them today as the invaders have been integrated into Aryan society through anuloma (hypergamous) marriage according to their traits. The path of divine integration has not been hampered but widened in the process.’ (Alo. Pra.Vol.11: 24-2-48).

Sri Sri Thakur tells, marrying even a thousand times is not a sin if the male does not become wife-centric. But even a monogamous relation becomes a sin where the male is wife-centric. Marriage means to carry on (bahana) wife. Marriage is for females (bibaaha) and carrying up (udbaaha) for males. The males being adhered to Ista will carry the Ideal forward. (Alo. Pra.Vol.22: 10-3-53).

Just promotion of polygamy is not enough. It has to be hypergamous in nature so that superior progeny increases. Alo. Pra.Vol.14: 29-10-48). But, it must be kept in mind that hypergamous marriage between two varna is not allowed unless the first marriage has been solemnized in the same varna. The aim is to retain the original homologous hereditary trait. That is why, our scriptures praise and recommend so much in favour of marriages in similar clan and varna. If a Bipra marries a Bipra, he will have the progeny of same varna. Then, if he has a Kshatriya wife, the progeny will have a happy blending of Bipra instinct and Kshatriya temperament. Like this, through different combinations, new specific varieties will evolve which will make nation richer and more varied. But in such cases, it will be a good practice to write the identity of the hypergamous progeny in bracket while mentioning the father’s title. If the father is Chattopadhyay and mother Baishya, the child will write Chattopadhyay (Ambostha). Otherwise, there could be a chaos in matters related to marriage and food hygiene (Alo. Pra.Vol.12: 27-5-48).

Commenting upon the ban of polygamy, Sri Sri Thakur tells—we are thus inviting catastrophe. This will make some females wretched who would become easy prey for all. Muslims have been able to retain polygamy by abiding to the sayings of Hazrat Rasul. But no one lends an ear to our Rasuls and rishis. In polygamy, the first wife of the husband and the husband combined becomes the swami (husband). Swami means satta (soul) — life. The meaning of swami is not the same as that of the word ‘husband’ which actually means landlord. Even the word ‘satin’ also means satta. The rule in polygamy is that husband can’t remarry without the consent of first wife. The implication is that Lord Ramachnadra could have remarried only after being consented by Sita. In the past, when marriage of a girl of higher varna used to be solemnized, 2-3 girls of lower varna used to be given as dowry who were known as maid-wives. But how vigorous used to be their children! The aim behind the system was to push for higher genetic enrichment through all possible ways (Alo. Pra.Vol.12: 9-7-48).

Adultery is not good both for males and females. If females do not maintain chastity, they can never ever be mother of good progeny even though polygamy aims at increasing efficient persons in society. Therefore, such a climate needs to be created that the females never step into adultery even at the cost of their life. (Alo. Pra.Vol.12: 26-5-48)

Polygamy is to be practiced in the manner it is prescribed in our scripture. (Alo. Pra.Vol.20: 24-1-52). Sri Sri Thakur says, ‘if you consider polygamy is justified, then it has to

be practiced. Though this will lead you to jail, still you have to adhere to it and embrace jail. If competent males do not practice polygamy and good progeny do not increase, then there will be a scarcity of cultivated cultured souls. The inferior will outnumber and will be the cause of ruin to nation. If we desire eminent progeny, then it is essential to solemnize the savarna and anuloma marriages for deserving males. Then only the nation will be enlivened again.’ (Alo. Pra.Vol.21: 11-1-53)

The underlying thought in this discussion is that marriage is a sacred institution (sanskar) meant for fulfillment of two souls, through mutual sharing and caring, leading to upward mobility of self and society, through progeny. This is better achieved by principles of eugenics and varnashram based social structure. It is to be understood that each stage in the life of an individual and particularly marriage is significant from the point of view of refinement, elevation and satisfaction. Therefore, polygamy is not to be mistaken as a license for reckless sensual enjoyment with multiple partners, rather a tool to bring completeness into life of individual while putting him/her at an elevated mode.

The Condensed Gospel of Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra - I

One Mr. Capel Briton, a young Englishman has been living at Satsang Ashram, Pabna for a few days. He has an intense spiritual yearning and he wants to get certain points clarified by private talks with Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra. Sri Sri Thakur is seated on the portico of Marti-Mandir. Capel comes here with Prafulla Kumar Das and expresses his desire. Sri Sri Thakur asks others to vacate the place. Mr. Das stays on to act as an interpreter.

Sri Sri Thakur: Don't you find any difficulty here?
Capel: No, We have been used to considerable hardship in course of our work in the army. Compared with that I am in great comfort here. Moreover, I am deeply enjoying the friendly behaviour of the Ashramites.
Sri Sri Thakur: Love dwells in your heart and so it excites love in others. No one remains stranger to Him who possesses the wealth of love. Everyone becomes his own.
Capel: I do not have the good quality you ascribe to me. I would like to know how that lovely quality can develop in me.
Sri Sri Thakur (smilingly): That you are eager to awaken it within you is an ample proof of the fact that it is inherent in your nature. But it is to be nurtured and the more it is nurtured, the more it grows. Lord Jesus is Love-Incarnate, and the more our love to Him intensifies the more it spreads over the world. Otherwise we can not succeed in cultivating love ; our love becomes dissipated in wrong directions under the sway of passions. Its purity cannot be maintained.
Capel: I seek to love Lord Jesus, but I cannot feel Him within me. Moreover I cannot understand what place love occupies in this world torn by war and restlessness.
Sri Sri Thakur: If you get a devotee who loves the Lord in thoughts, words and deeds, observes His teachings and tenets in his daily life and is completely absorbed in Him then you can easily realize the Lord through him by following him properly. He cannot be understood by reading of books and imagination. We can feel Him to some degree by seeing a living man, who has imbibed Him in his character and whose heart is fully set on Him. Of course mere seeing is not enough ; he is to be practically followed with love. What is required is unconditional surrender. Because if I follow his instructions as far as they are to my liking and discard them when they are not, then any complexes do not get adjusted. We cannot relish or understand many of directions because of complexes. Complex does not let us understand. The reason we boast of so much does not help us to a great degree. Because reason moves according to complex and sentiment. So we should obey His mandate without any hesitancy or consideration. Whether His instructions appeal to us or not, if we go on obeying them inspite of ourselves, we can subsequently understand the logic of His instructions. In course of doing this we learn to discover and adjust our submerged complexes. So complete transmutation of personality can not be effected without following the guidance of a Seer. Many unwarrantable traits lurk in our character. Even if good qualities become manifest, the desire for self-gratification predominates there. So real elevation of being is not achieved. And the enormous restlessness and the conflict of the world stem from lack of Ideal-Centeredness. If we could move centering round Lord Christ and if we could inspiringly attract men towards Him, then the state of affairs would have been different. Every man would have the interest of every other man. Nobody would imagine killing another. To kill another is to destroy the foundation of one's own existence. You should bear in mind that the Advents are all bedewed with the attributes of providence and it is they who are Christs. Christs means anointed.
Capel: Even if man does not love God, he may love man. Man's love for man is a very common thing. Moreover I have seen that almost every individual has this tendency. Despite that why should violence and hatred dominate the world?
Sri Sri Thakur: As there is love in man, so also there is hatred in him. Someone should be held aloft before man by loving whom his tendency of love becomes strong and his hatred and jealousy become adjusted and controlled. So if Lord is not infused in man, he can not advance very far with his own assets. It does not become feasible for him to master the amount of toleration, endurance, acquaintance with individual distinctiveness and sense of proportion, which is essential for mutual harmonious relation.
Capel: The point you are hinting at leads to the cult of Guru hood. One of the chief drawbacks of Guru hood is this that if the Guru is not without defects, then the disciples thoughtlessly imbibe those defects and the Guru is not unlikely to exploit them taking advantage of their devotion towards him.
Sri Sri Thakur: So we should carefully observe a man before accepting him as our spiritual guide. It is to be specially discerned as to what sort of devotion he has to his own Guru and if he practices what he preaches. A real Guru can not think of his own interest separately from that of others. His sole interest lies in enhancing the becoming of others. When he takes anything from a man, he takes it because giving will benefit the giver. Otherwise he does not accept anything to fulfill his personal desire. So it is not possible for him to exploit anyone. But he may exploit our complexes to serve our being. Suppose, some one is addicted to drinks. If he has some money with him he will forthwith take to drinking. By repeatedly taking from him, if he can be kept constantly in want, then his inclination towards and opportunity of drinking are likely to shrink. In this case taking lovingly from him becomes a source of his welfare. There is no doubt about the fact that the wrong choice of Guru may cause harm to man. How can one lead others to light, when the said one has not himself caught a glimpse of light ? How can he who has not transcended the limitation of passionate ness help another in transcending it?
Capel: Where there is the likelihood of mistake and danger in choosing a Guru, then it is better not to have a Guru but to carry on spiritual practices in one's own way. God is there and man can attain to Him, if he has sincere craving.
Sri Sri Thakur: If I continue spiritual practices without accepting a Guru, then I shall remain what I am, I shall not be able to detect my weakness, nor shall I be able to overcome them. To realize God means to attain the character of God according to my distinctiveness. How shall I mould my character and conduct if there is no living example of His character and conduct before me? To realize God is not just a conventional affair. People think that a little perception of inner light or sound is a great achievement. But it is not so. If character does not change and complexes do not get adjusted then the mere perception of light or sound or the excitation of joy does not serve any very useful purpose. Even after the attainment of those realizations, egoistic explosion of complexes may occur at any time. Again, without devotion to the Guru a man cannot advance very far in the realm of fine realization. One gets merged at a very low level. The deeper the devotion to Guru, the finer is the stage up to which self-consciousness can be kept alive. Moreover, if self-consciousness is maintained, fine and finer, deep and deeper realization can be experienced. Those, whose consciousness gets muddled at low stage of elevation, may afford to remain satisfied by thinking a comparatively gross perception to be the culmination of realization. The more the Guru is a man of deepest realization and deeper the attachment towards Him, the more the likelihood there is of attaining deepest realization; of course regular practice is necessary. Realization should again be made to find expression in personal conduct. At the every stage of our soul-searching and self-reformation the need of a Guru is imperative.
Capel: If a man can lead a moral life that can suffice. Spiritual life may involve the necessity of a Guru, but a man may do without a Guru in his moral life. Man understands general moral principles and some persons with high moral character are found in the society and a man can adjust his conduct by observing their conduct. But there he does not require selling himself outright to another particular individual. To surrender one's personality to another seems to be extremely self-derogatory.
Sri Sri Thakur: Everyone of us is begotten by a particular individual and so we acknowledge that individual as father; such is the dispensation of nature. Do we consider owing allegiance to father as something disgraceful ? Rather, because of our veneration to one as father, we can pay profound respect to others who are like him. Only depending on another suitable integrated person can unify our personality. The basis of our life is our life-urge. If the urge is torn in a hundred ways, then our personality becomes totally shattered. If we accept some one as primary then out of an urge to fulfill him, we may gather necessary ingredients from all suitable sources. That causes no harm. Out of this adherence all knowledge and experiences of man become tied together on a common thread to find a meaningful fulfillment in one. A man may have varied knowledge, qualities and experiences but if he has no centre of fulfillment, then all those things exist as so many disintegrated lumps. He may observe moral principles but they are not assimilated and absorbed and this brings indigestion of morality. Again, our urge can not continue intact without having a definite Superior Beloved. Man does not observe principles for the sake of principles, but he observes them out of an urge to satisfy the Superior Beloved. If there is no Superior Beloved, the ardour for observing principles also diminishes.
Capel: Why should there be only one Superior Beloved? There may be many.
Sri Sri Thakur: It leads man to the same result as is derived by a woman by having many husbands instead of one. Uni-centric adjustment can not take place. It begets a conflicting personality. So some one should be prime. If a man's different organs are generated and developed in different wombs of different mothers, can they be fastened to form a single normal living organism of a man? Unity evolves into variety and variety becomes meaningful in unity. In the beginning there must be a unit. One cell in course of its division forms so many organs and evolves into a huge human body. So there exists such co-ordination and reciprocity among the different parts of the body. So a deep sense of harmony and concord prevails among the different elements of our knowledge if that sprouts through adherence to one. Otherwise there subsists no relation between one understanding and another in a man. The isolated understandings create a confused uproar and do not enrich life by being mutually fulfilling.
Capel: How does untottering faith in the existence of God become steady ? At times doubt torments my mind.
Sri Sri Thakur: Love is at the root of faith. When love for passion supersedes love for being, doubt becomes prominent instead of faith. Whenever you begin to doubt about God, take it for granted that passionate ness has possessed you. Faith is enlivening that alone leads man aright and makes him powerful. Disbelief and doubt make man unconscientiously and weak. The more our devotion to Guru Increases, the more our faith in God becomes firm. And through spiritual practices direct experience is to be gained about the original abode of being. If a man stands on the bedrock of that realization, then his mind totters very little. A man cannot be rooted in faith, till the veil of his passionate ness is completely penetrated. Passionate ness creates a false screen that covers truth. The sun is self-luminous, but have you not seen how it is often darkened by the cloud?What has been described in our scriptures, as the veil of illusion is perhaps this passionate ness.
Capel: Today man cannot do without science, but science is turning to be a source of restlessness instead of peace. What is the way out?
Sri Sri Thakur: If we cultivate science actuated by a sense of Dharma, then it will be our endeavour to harness science to our effective living along with that of others. Thereby science will be meaningful to our life through distribution of mutual service. The urge to live and let others live is the religious urge. So this religious urge has to be awakened. Then the idea of saving others and not destroying them will dominate others. And then science will contribute to peace instead of disturbance. Along with that there should be preparedness for self-defence. And such ideas are to be propagated among the masses of different countries as are sure to intensify within all the urge of living and letting others live. Preparation for self-defence is meant for this that no destructive force may annihilate existence and integration.
Capel: There are people who reckon preparation for killing others as a part of preparation for self-defence. Because if others realize that, their attempt to kill us is sure to bring about their death, then at least that fright will dissuade them forth taking aggressive measures and our security will be ensured. Then the race of making preparations for self-defence will automatically bring in violence and war.
Sri Sri Thakur: The motive-force that should guide us is to maintain our own existence without causing any injury to other people, as far as practicable. We have no right to allow our existence to be victimized by others violence, because existence is the endowment of God.
Capel: It is said that God cannot be attained without extinction of desires. But is desire-less life possible? How can it be possible that no desire will spring up in one's mind?
Sri Sri Thakur: Whatever will may appear, whatever desire may linger, if their goal is God, if their sole purpose is to fulfill Him, then they cause no harm. But we should not give indulgence to those desires that are opposed to Him. To indulge in them is to burden us by carrying unnecessary loads. Of what use it is to indulge in that which separates me from my beloved and hurls me down in the vortex of afflictions?
Capel: I have given you lots of trouble. I have profited much by talking with you. Let us close here today.
Sri Sri Thakur: No trouble at all. I like it immensely. But I am an ignorant man. I do not know English. Moreover, I do not possess sufficient knowledge to present my ideas in a systematic manner.
Capel: I have read your "The Message", no one can speak like that without knowing English.
Sri Sri Thakur: I do not know anything. Kestoda (Shri Krishna Prasanna Bhattacharya) has somehow brought out those things from me.
Capel: I shall again talk with you according to your convenience.
Sri Sri Thakur (smilingly): Oh yes! Whenever you like. If anyone benefits by talking with me, I consider myself the gainer thereby. I am as much within me as I am within you. If you do not become fulfilled, to the same extent I remain unfulfilled.

Divine Messages uttered in trans by Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra

The Seventh Day : 13th Ashar, B.S. 1321

Utter the word `Ma' (Mother).
Behold the plentitude of power. You may avail yourself of it. As soon as you see the divine beauty of mother, the lustfulness becomes chastened (disciplined).
At first food is required. Without it the stomach aches. (Hungry people can not understand philosophy).
I am the repository of infinite peace, be quick to come to me.
Can't you take the plunge (in Divine Ocean)? Don't you have live blood in
you? (r u dead?)
Think for yourself whether it is better to take animal excretion knowingly or unknowingly. So long as you are in bondage, sincere aspiration is not kindled. When a heartfelt driving desire for liberation will possess you, nothing in the world can stand as a deterrent (resistant). The whole creation is subservient (obedient) to will. We can ascend or descend by clinging (hanging) to the thread of will. When man sinks, he does not generally feel the urge of rising up till he reaches the bottom, but those who become conscious of their downward go in course of their fall, strive to get up. There are some inveterate (seasoned) bondsmen who remain merged in bondage despite the attainment of human birth. They take delight in slander and scandal-mongering. In order to bring them to their senses, severe blow is indispensable. They cannot be roused if intense penitence be not caused to them. Their filth cannot be rubbed away; they need to pass through the furnace of suffering. But you should seize them also. If soft dealing becomes ineffectual, hurl them in the fire with a view to attenuating their callous insensibility. Man suffers because of their non-apprehension of the goal of human existence. Can delusion or delimitation stand in the way of a person who has developed a proper concept in this regard? He yearns for deliverance (liberation). Try to understand what darkness is capable of doing. Let there be perpetual (continuous) darkness, but if the sun rises only for an instant, all darkness is dispelled forthwith.
Man can perceive light in the background of darkness. They can feel day-break because night precedes it. If night was ever lasting, could they identify daytime?
We should never worry about what is in store for us. Go on doing your job, why should you spend your energy ever expectantly about the result thereof? There are people who consider misery to be a kind of happiness, and murmur about the extent of their wretchedness (misery), of course often they say, `We are fine, we have got children to contribute to our joy'.
If you think deeply and understand the nature of things, all your troubles will flee from you. Deliberate things discretely.
The higher way of life inheres in us. What is the elixir of life? Bliss is verily the elixir, indeed! The path to peace dwells within us. You should know that you can reach Brahma by having recourse to primal power and you also attain both the Supreme power and Brahma by accepting Brahma.
Heaven, earth and Hades are co-existent right here in your presence.
Even if you serve your own family in the right attitude, you will gain everything.
You are verily the cub of a lion. Can you afford to live in a state of torpor (inactivity)? You will obtain the realization of God in and through the very person, whose contact serves to awaken in you a divine consciousness. All your defied thinking is flawless.
Over-eating produces indolence (laziness) and deadens one’s ability to perform arduous (hard) tasks. You cannot sustain your sprightliness due to overeating.
Do not be engaged in worldly affairs with a fictitious and
fallacious concept of things.
You are all great workers. Never be indolent (lazy). You possess infinite power in you. Awaken it. You can crash and grind unnumbered planets and satellites by one bite. You are a dynamic source of power; many an individual may attain full fledged personality by appropriating strength from you.
You are the architect of the destiny of many. You are capable of getting them merged in the Ocean of Brahma. Come on fortified by your infinite strength. Exert and demonstrate the influence of a house-holder hermit. Unfurl a flag in the sky and display the effectiveness of harmony. Your power is limitless.
Try to achieve perfect conquest of passions, take plunge in Kirtan. Be careful not to dissipate your intense energy. If you do not apply yourself perfectly, all your energy will come to an end and you will lose efficiency. Make your thoughts as expensive as the universe. Spread out your delimiting fascination throughout universe. There can be no monk like a house-holder with a genuine bent of mind. He has no worry, nor any anxiety; he is exclusively given to unselfish thinking. Control your passions. Do not give birth to further issue that will be harmful to you (an instruction given to a particular person). Break down all obstacles. I shall
surely help you attain salvation. You are an integral part of me. You are a power of mine that enchants others. How can I be a passive spectator, when you are on the verge of ruin? I cannot suffer it to be so. Join Kirtan, what do you desire? I shall confer on you Dharma, wealth, fulfillment of existential needs, liberation and all that. Do you want money? Then work without any attachment to
results, tons of money will roll at your feet. Embrace distressed souls and I shall bestow on you Dharma and deliverance. If you crave for fulfillment of longings, then seek it for Lord. I shall grant you everything.You will obtain everything, every objective will be served. I shall confer everything. Intensify your thought-current. Whole-hearted faith is essential. Nothing can be had without real faith. The primary step is to develop sincere faith. Run on. Hug everyone in your breast with throbbing good will and universal love; own everyone to make him your own. Start winning others, and eventually
you will reach me. Don’t you think what will be your lot when everything will be wipes away?
Really She is our mother filled with supernal consciousness. Your consort i.e., wife also represents the mother. Wait, if you choose to go to hell, why not go thither for the sake of other people's benefit? What is there of sin and anguish? Why don't you lay the burden of your misdeeds on my shoulder? (19)
See, when this divine strength wakes up that is called true awakening. Once start singing the glory of Lord from door to door with frantic fervour. Proclaim the message—`arise and awake'—dinning it into the ear of sleeping people. Make the whole world astound and amazed. Rouse up all like the fresh morning sun. Immediately rising from bed put your mouth in the ears of all and communicate your auspicious tidings to them. You will be able to do the needful. (20)
Yes, charity begins at home, but you must expand it—the charity of home. My Lord! I am nothing but I, you must think all is not little all, all is—supreme soul. I am supreme soul—the Parabrahma.
See, the things which we see, are nothing but illusion and this illusion is the expression of spirit—we see it. Try to draw your attention upon the current of spirit that is going on the junction of the two eyes at the root of the nose. It is the spirit onward. My Lord, let me go now. I am quite unable to remain any
longer. Children! You must fix your attention at the root of the nose to have "You" and draw the spirit onward. This was my policy when I was Jesus. You can search Holy Book.

The Sixth Day: 12th Ashar, B.S. 1321

External activity of body and words by the influence of mind is work. Yes, also internal activity. * (2).

The more you will labor (work hard), the more you will be able to desist (stop) from passionate proclamation (announcement). Existential activity leads towards what is propitious (favorable), evil (bad) action goads (push) towards evil. Both courses end in desistance. One course leads to inertness and dullness, another culminates in complete absorption in the Supreme Brahma. Can dullness cause deliverance (freedom)? (3)

The spirit is highly coated with Maya.* Buddha taught the doctrine (principles) of extinction of desire. Shankaracharya made the idea explicit (clear, open). Buddha’s standpoint was explained by Shankaracharya. A man of knowledge understands the philosophy underlying an ethical view of life. Knowledge finds its fulfillment in devotion. So Chaitanyadeva appeared. There grew a spirit of discord (conflict) and malevolence (ill will) among the adherents (supporters) of different paths of Dharma, and there was the advent of Ramakrishna to demonstrate the basic unity lying behind all forms of Dharma. Let alone Dharma, gospel of action and all that, and let me find relief by discovering my real “I” and by getting anchored there act. (4)

Dedicate your being to God and go on doing your duty. Work with a vehement (intense) speed. Burn all your sins. Put an end to selfish attachment and delusion and elevate yourself to the utmost degree. If I do not love my real self how can I reach the region of Supreme “I”? We shall have to love both the sentient (conscious) and insentient with a consciousness that every thing and being is a manifestation of God and our own self. You will have to retain some vestige (trace) of ego-based differentiation only to keep the power of discrimination (bias) alive in you, otherwise how will you act? This residual ego is lustrous (shiny) like fire. Insects and grass-hoppers i.e., our weakness will be consumed by their close contact with this flame and thereafter the aspirant will regain his true self. (5)

The mind is to be caught hold of. It is to be combated. Knowledge and love are the principal weapons. The external weapon is modesty and humility. You will take hold of the outer self of man by means of exterior aid and capture his inner being by having recourse to kindred modus-operandi. Keep your mind calm and composed and everything will be accomplished. (9)

Perform Kirtan with an open mind. Go to the house of everyone who is receptive and eager to same degree. At times go through the whole locality with the Kirtan-party, at least twice a week. Perform Kirtan with dance in a divine frenzy. Hundreds of important people will rush on to join your Kirtan as insects do by seeing blazing fire and you will have to invite none. You will be able to draw the entire world just by sitting at a place and you will not require calling anyone. Hundreds of grass-hoppers and butterflies will also be irresistibly attracted it. Continue Kirtan intensely. Call the Name of Lord heart and soul. Draw him heartily with magnetic pull. Continue Kirtan and dance with abundant enthusiasm. (10)

When the Supreme Source is unqualified then it is Supreme Brahma and when it is endowed with attributes, it is called God. (11)

The Fifth Day. 5th Ashar, B.S. 1321

Spit on and spurn (reject) the sin, not the sinner.
I have told you; do not ask me in such a manner again and again.
You should know that the eternal self underlying our body and mind is certainly Brahma. But the atman that is subject to limitations of the body-mind complex is not Brahma. Never make many mistakes in your assessment.
Consciousness (realization) is always endowed (gifted) with energizing impact. But it has its limitations. Consciousness and energy are inseparable. Creations also a manifestation of energy. Just see all beings have evolved through the operation the law of the cause and effect. The created entity is verily Brahma. It is Brahma that exists in form of I, you, and animal, a leaf, a creeper etc. The fact is that Brahma evolved out of itself without the need of any extraneous element i.e., the material factor involved in the evolution inheres in its own bosom. The one (Brahma) becomes many and different through the agency of volition (wish). The mind of a tree and that of a lamb is not the same, but both of them are verily Brahma. All of you are nothing but me. As soon as you realize this truth, all your ignorance is dispelled in an instant. Brahma is the ocean, a finite being (atma) is just a bubble; as soon it (atma) loses its existence by mingling (mix) with the ocean (Brhma) the form of bubble comes to an end. Can there be any hatred? How can I hate myself? This entire blunder (mistake) flows from the obsession (fascination) of complex. When a man understands that he dwells in all forms of life, he gets rig of delusion and this can be affected if a man develops some thoughtfulness and genuine love. Alas! Man does not understand this simple truth. But the consciousness dawns if a man practices Kirtan systematically. Then the very concept undergoes a total transformation. At this stage (after realization) people (saadhak) feel that they themselves have become (one with) the World. Eventually they reach a level where they feel that they have no separate existence other than that of Brahma and there also they fail to grasp the mystery underlying this all inclusive being. Anyway, we have to achieve utmost unfoldment of the faculty of cogitation (meditation).
All of you taken together constitute the whole of creation and I am all of you combined. You are fools (ignorant). Suppose there are thousand candles burning in a room, if you put out (off) one of them, does it mean that all the other candles are extinguished thereby? All fire (light) is one but every single blazing candle may be compared to a creature of the world. But the culminating point of all is the same. Every one of you is me in a specific make up.
Dharma, wealth, fulfillment of desires (Dharma, Artha, Kam)—all these things can be had by Name. Take the plunge (sink in mediatation), everything will be achieved. If a man develops a maddening interest in Kirtan, his mind becomes sound (clean) and when the mind becomes sound, physical health is ensured. Do not forsake (leave) sex or wealth; remain engaged in mundane (routine) work with grim determination throughout the whole day. In the evening make haste (rush) to join Kirtan and practice Kirtan with divine intoxication (habit), I shall bestow (give) upon you everything. Don't you have faith? Do not be worried about sex – leaning (inclination) or financial problems. Continue Kirtan for a few hours every evening with maddening zeal. I can give you everything. I can grant celestial bliss (heavenly enjoyment); come along, you will have to suffer no affliction (misery).
What is needed is a bit of faith. Just see what a tremendous power I possess. Just recognize me once. Utter the name of Hari in evening at least once. Just feel for yourself the extent of my strength. Have a little faith in me, Run to me without caring for any hindrance. See if I can tear the veil of illusion or not. Try to understand that the world is ordained (predestined) by my will. If you like you may remain immersed in worldly affairs. You may also indulge in grievous (terrible) sins. I shall wipe out all your blemishes. Kirtan is great thing. Join Kirtan with an irresistible urge, surely you will be released from bondage. Well! do not give way to anxiety (fear). Attachment to woman and wealth will surely lose its grip over you. Just see, practice Kirtan with the beat of small and big drums and the clarion call of buggles, kettledrums, conches and bells. Merge your soul in Kirtan with a tremendous tempo. I assure you of its efficacy, just do it for seven days and see for yourself the result arising out of it.
Brother! This is (verify) the right path. Accelerate the speed of your go towards the Ideal. Lay bare your heart (accept him); heart is the seat of all that is precious in life. It is really wondrous. The potency (strength) of Name (Naam) is unparalleled. By practicing Name you can ascend the region of `Om'. When your being dwells in the sphere of Name i.e., when repetition of Name becomes habitual in your life, the coiled-up energy (kundalini) lying (sleeping) deep down in your organismic system is awakened.
The more one rises high up with accelerated pace, the more quickly does he come down with a thud. So the upward motion (of kundalini) has to be steadied.
Just experience the bliss emanating (originates) from unselfish love. Do not harbor what is incompatible with love. It is but the mind that accomplishes everything.
Do come unto me in a lightening speed. Your bosom is very broad, very spacious, many an aspirant will find a sanctuary (refuge) in it, and no hammering (hitting) will be able to break or bruise (damage) you. Secular knowledge has to be appropriated to reach supreme knowledge. Lo! Will-power has a tremendous influence. You will be able to accomplish whatever you propose to do with the Ideal in view. When you will find that hatred, shame, and fear have disappeared (within you), you will be in a position to overcome all obstacles. Again when (if) your life-urge will often rise and fall alternately, take it for granted that your mental state has not attained stability. Will you be then able to dwell in the region of Name? God never tarries (tries) to bestow grace on people. His mercy is perennial (constant) and the flow of it towards you depends on your tuning with Him. There are great sinners, who have emaciated (shrunken – thin) their body and mind (with) constant sinful thought(.) a(A)pproach them and tell them, Brother, just come to me in a hurry and listen to the divine Kirtan, be heedful (attentive) to the Divine proclamation:

Sarbdharman parityajya mamekam sharanam braja,Aham twam sarva-papebhya mokshoisyami ma suchah.
Hear! The echo is running faster than air, it is echoing resounding the horizon, "I will save you from all sins, so do not give way to grief or dejection." Join the Kirtan, all your worries will be dispelled just by one stroke.
Mere trust in God cannot give eternal throne. Sound of your call must reach me because I am sound. Be quick to get rid of these matters of the World (maaya)! At first you shake (change) your heart, and then you will shake the world. The world will shake at a time. Yes, you perhaps absent yourselves from this world and the world absents from you, (both) are equal. Yes, when mind is warm, external cold is insufficient to cool the body. Your mind is the master of all deities. Check your mind and move your mind all day towards God. You say (thinks), fire burns and water cools everything, (and tell me) it is supernatural. Trust His name. He will give you everything. Trust, I am not alone for this world, world is me—all these `I', all these creatures, all the matters, all the world are `I'. * (*Spoken in English by Sri Sri Thakur Himself).
The difference between each other (Brahma and Atma) is Maya (Illusion). You can think `I' through anything. What else you think is the world, that thought is mine. Clear your heart, my shadow will fall on (will remain with) you. Love the true thing, which can record my shadow (my shadow will record it). Be a philanthropist (humanitarian), you will see all are philanthropists. Do not bate (hate) anyone, hate their errors, and correct their errors. Embrace (hug) and keep the sinner's breast on your breast and thus let the (his) sin erase (change) in truth and not in the false. Be humble to anyone and everyone, everyone will be bumble to you. Contemplate (consider) your God with heart. Declare Narus…………………Love. Beg your pardon, let me go. Know that you are not a common soul. (*Spoken in English by Sri Sri Thakur Himself).
Whatever is done along with unfoldment of inherent capabilities finds fruition indeed!
You will get rid of all ailments, just continues Name.
If you mean to unite (untie) your knot (from bondage), first of all have a genuine unwavering will to do so.
Toll (wonder) by (whole) day. (But) At nightfall come along to your Thakur and repeat Name dismissing all troubles and agonies. You all are free souls. Through this Kirtan your boundless love will pervade the whole universe. Extend your love to all. I shall offer you everything. Heap (load) all your sufferings, sins and torments (pain) on my head. Laugh heartily, chant the Name of the Lord. I am always with you.
· What do you have to dread (fear)?
· Why do you worry about family-affairs?
· Whom does the family belong to? Is it yours?
· Who are you? You are verily the embodiment of existence, consciousness and bliss that constitutes the essence of Brahm and the Supreme Self.
· How can you be subjected to the bondage of mundane (ordinary) affairs?
· How can you also afford to have craving for heavenly happiness?
· Whatever you will will (wish), shall come pass.
· What is there in the world to frighten you?
· Name is your solitary refuge.
· I the self of all of you, am existent.
· I am the self of all selves.
· I am the Supreme Brahm.
· I have thrust all my will (wishes) in you. Now it is your will that counts.
· Give me a little scope. I shall smash all your impediments (obstructions).
· You are the offspring's of lion. You will catch hold of all one by one and manipulate (control) them in a masterly manner simply to help them attain salvation.
· There is no one to contest you. You are super-man; there is none in the world who can dare with you.
Come on with a blazing enthusiasm, and take shelter of the Supreme Power. Mark it well! (Remember) You are (have) to bring the Kingdom of Heaven on earth with desperate determination and establish it on the plane of morals. Forsake selfishness, give up lure of money, get rid of ignoble attachment, gain maintain everything in an indirect way so as to be able to share all you have with all other people.
Discharge the duties of life in a triumphant mood and constantly be seated on the throne of Brahm. Do repeat the Name.
Lead your secular (worldly) life to your full satisfaction with an uninhabited mind and just lodge (keep) me in a corner of your heart. I shall release you from all shackles. I shall bequeath (hand over) my throne to you and eventually, get merged in your immutable (absolute) self, which is none other than `Me'.
Oh debauch! I tell you again and again, get yourself immersed in Name. I shall set you free from all sins and agonies born thereof. Utter the Name of (supreme) mother. Who is to share the consequences of your sins? It is I who will bear the burden of your transgressions. Just came to me with a heart pulsating with love.
I have infinite strength, (be prompt to) accept it from me. You will not have any sorrow, nor any sufferings; God will save you in manifold ways. You self-conceited (self satisfied)! Abandon your self-conceit; know it for certain that man are weighed low down under the pressure of his own sins. Can't you throw away all your sins? Pour out your sins on me. I am ready to stone for you. Go mad for me and come to me with an irresistible impetus. The realm of sun, moon, planet, star and even the nether world does not have any power to thwart your triumphant march. Run on like infuriated and desperate `Shiva' with the corpse of Sati on his shoulder. Run towards me with impetus vital energy and a heart vibrant with love. Do not hate the sinner, embrace him lovingly. I shall redeem all of you. Give shelter to the sinner. Shall I not stretch my hand towards you? You constitute my existence. My perfect ness lies in the fact of attainment of perfection by all of you. Without all of you, I am all alone.
Go to the devotees briskly (quickly), if they touch you, you will be absolved of your sins. Then I shall accept you. Why do you worry? Go ahead, do not lose your vital vigor (energy), nourish it, you will be immensely peaceful. I have placed a screen before you. I have kept my soul (messengers) involved in the world simply for your emancipation (liberation). I could get myself aloof (detached) just at my sweet will. But I have assumed the bondage (burden) for your liberation, because I have allowed you to be infatuated (crazed) by worldly desires and to be afflicted (troubled) by sufferings. Now come on! Forget your little self.
In the beginning I was alone, it is through my will that I have become many, in the end also I am alone and that is at the root of the advent of Kalki. At the outset I was unmodifiable, there was nothing distinguishable from me, and subsequently I chose to undergo modification. Again the volition has possessed me to get beyond the reach of all modification. So then is the incarnation of Kalki. Again I am (have) to gain my fullness by coalescing (uniting) and integrating all into my undivided and indivisible self. Just consider! What a multitude of division and micro division I have had to undergo for the sake of you only to pick-up all of you. Advance (rush) towards me. You are to find me out. You (have to) seek me.
Continue Kirtan with an emotional abandon and dance frantically with a divine rapture (joy). Make the atoms dance with a rhythmic tremor. Shake all that is inert and responsive including tress and shrubs in your massive grasp. No sooner you are spiritually inspired, than all will rush forward to come in touch with you. From the King down to Fakir all will feel gratitude to submit themselves at your feet and serve you unquestioningly. I possess stupendous power, it is concealed behind modesty, courtesy and submissiveness. It is aflame in me with splendour. You should also captivate heart of all by imbibing modesty and gentle manners. In fact, the world is yours.
Your heart is whole. Come on, you will obtain everything from me. Listen to the word of God. I the supreme self am the self of you all. Again pay attention to the resounding sound. It happened once, again the sound of the divine proclamation is reflecting itself by tremendously trembling the sky above and the river and the sea below. I shall save you from all sins, do not grieve.
Then what is there to worry about? Be you a Muslim, a Hindu, a Buddhist, a Christian or any other community, just listen to the proclamation of super self, I shall save you from all sins, do not grieve. Bear in mind, chaotic attempt are of no avail, simply engage yourself in Kirtan. Come to me and my adherents (believers). We have infinite strength and I shall confer on you everything.
Catch hold of people in bends and effect their regeneration completely.
After sometime you will find that lots of things have been destroyed, it is verily the nature of the world, then what will you cling to if there is nothing enduring as an object of your attachment? While crossing a river if you tarry to long in the midway, you stand every chance of getting drowned. If you place your head towards the opposite bank of the river and keep moving your hands in the right direction, you can reach your destination without fail. So I re-iterate, even if you have to face unforeseen dangers and calamities, never give up your effort to reach the goal, rest assured I shall never fail to lead you to a safe harbour.
Offer all you have to your Thakur one after another, and then you will gradually develop an attitude of detachment. The real master of all we have will get back what he kindly gave us can there be anything happier than this?
Kishori! Love intensely, love all with all your heart, and let your blood boil in a dynamic love you on. If none cares to love you, I shall love you on. Fall at the feet of all. Dance once more with the verve and vigour of Shiva. You are a super-power, but do not rend all the veils right now, so that all the full extent of your powers may not be exposed to people forth-with. It is good not to inflate ego, but it needs to be kept for sometime. You will not have to worry about anything. You have genuine love and attachment for your Thakur. You are sure to enjoy unbroken bliss. Continue Kirtan along with vigorous and vehement, dance. Many pure souls emanating from the super soul are existent, they will imbibe your spirit. At times remember that you are nothing but the supreme self. Rend the apparent veil of everyone. Combine and unify the friends and foe, the tiger and goat, water and fire and demonstrate this glowing example before people. Radha Krishna will blaze resplendently in water and fire, in cloud as well in lightning, surely it will happen, they will see for themselves this blazing glow, but this experience will not serve to intensify heart-burning, rather it will assuage and comfort their distressed soul. You are the high priest of a great ceremony (Maha-Jajna) meant to promotes the becoming of people; be conscientiously true to your glorious office. The sanctifying oblation in this holy sacrifice is my Supreme Self. Once I unconditionally gave myself up totally. I shall do it once more. I shall lose my identity in you. Whatever you see in the world is nothing but myself. Oh Alas! I do not have the scope to evade my responsibility even by courting death.
Be careful on every side—Soul is immortal. No death, no birth. Yes, my Lord, no time at all. No more today, I come again.
I claim all of your heart. (Spoken in English by Sri Sri Thakur Himself).
Do not harbour any doubt or hesitation, go on repeating Name with your whole soul, the desideratum will surely by achieved. What you consider to be impossible will come to pass. The impossible will be rendered possible.

Nabin! You must keep yourself peaceful. Listen to me, if a dead body is buried under a heap of faeces, can it perceive the reality? (2)

Live in your house in an un entangled way. It can be done by mentally dwelling in the dome of Lord. (3)

Can you have a taste of peace if there is no contrasting background of disquiet?Both peace and restlessness have their origin in mind. If you have no perceptive mental faculty, both peace and unrest cease to exist for you. To start with you do not need to run after peace or unrest, you have to only pursue God and then peace will follow you spontaneously. (4)

Infinite forms of `I' (Ahamkar) dwell in infinite number of individual beings. The culmination of becoming lies in realizing the underlying unity behind diversity. (5)

Shaping the mind is the only thing that is difficult. Once it is done, everything is easy. It is Kirtan that shapes the mind aright. (6)

I was there in the past, I exist in the intermediate stage also and I shall continue to exist in the future. It is my mind alone that can understand me. (7)

We should offer all things to God one after another, He immediately restores whatever we gave Him, of course we should not make wrong use of what He gives us back. If we happen to offer Him any fruit, we are entitled to share it afterwards. But we are to make proper use of it. And that is proper abstention. (8)

Slow and steady wins the race, as we should hold on to the last. (9)

You have envenomed both your life here and hereafter by yielding to a bad satanic obsession. Come on; take a plunge to absorb divine life. The strength emerging from it is all-potent. When a man shares the amrita obtained by churning the ocean of life; the poisonous bite of the evil world can hardly prove disastrous. Have abiding faith in the limitless power of the Lord. (10)

Tell them that the momentum of my move is faster than the fall of a meteor. I can do anything I like. But I seek your active co-operation. Of course you should know that I alone can set ablaze the entire universe. (11)

Do not wear the iron chain around your neck anymore. That will hasten your death by strangulating you. It has been torn asunder with great difficulty. (12)

Run onward in a concentric way. All happiness will seize you. Repeat Holy Name alone. Holy Name transcends the region of `Om', Holy Name precedes and oversteps the plane of `Om'. Do not attach much importance to other Mantras that lead to the realization of audible sounds alone. Better practice this Holy Name, Holy Name leads you to Me the Supreme "I". I am the Supreme Self, the Absolute Brahma.

Rest assured, if you avail yourself of the upward current of Holy Name, you can reach your destination very quickly. One can reach the supreme Brahma after crossing the plane of `Om'. Holy Name is comparable to the Darjeeling Mail. As soon as you will go beyond the realm of `Om', you will readily attain the supreme Brahma. You need not give way to fear, the Padma bridge has been constructed, and now you can reach Siliguri straight way.

Try to feel that real enjoyment lies in renunciation (rejection of material world). The more you are ready to give up selfish enjoyment, the more will real enjoyment embrace you. The main thing is faith. Join Kirtan with just an iota of faith, it will work wonders. Even if your faith be not attended with proper vision, still it is welcome. Never allow yourself to be crushed under the pressure of blind desires. If you are on the right track, you will find all that exists in the universe in the frame of your Ideal. If you do not achieve this realization, your all other efforts comes to naught.

NAME ! NAME ! NAME ! It does not matter whether you possess devotion or not, just go on repeating the Name. Never allow anything in you which will disturb your repetition of Name. Know it, for certain that our world is a creation of our mind. The mind can visualize spheres lying far away beyond the gross world; even some elements of that fine world are nothing but a projection of our mind. Then, is this world is fictitious? No, the gross manifestation owes its origin to the finer layer of existence. Just think when the masur variety of pulse is unhusked or rather its outer coating is removed it looks red, but why does it become white, when it is boiled. (13)

You can achieve the goal by removing the masks as far as required. But dnot remove all the masks all of a sudden, then you will not be in a position to behave normally in the world.

Alas! Nobody seeks me, the supreme`I'. (14)

Kishori! The sun and moon cease to exist; even all the stars are destroyed. But why do you weep? All that exists is yours. Kishori! my darling! Make sure that your inferior ego is wiped away as far as practicable. This is exactly what is required. Catch hold of groups of people and throw them outright in the bosom of the ocean of Brahma. Thereafter you will reach me. Every one of you is nothing but a wave of that ocean (Brahma). In fact, you symbolize the entire world. Every individual of the world is a manifestation of me alone. Just see nobody is your friend or foe. Everyone is a different form of me or you. (15)

Give a glassful of water to the thirsty. You will get water when you become thirsty.(16)

Charm yourself if you wish to charm everyone. (17)

At first I was charmed by my will, therefore the universe was charmed. (18)

If you get sound everywhere . . . . . (19)

If you wish to be great then be humble and low! (20)

Knowledge is the crown of God. Oh! Yes, at first know what you are. (21)

Your heart is the store of uncommon power, because you are God, because I am God. (22)

There is a great similarity in God of every religion. (23)

If you mean to capture people's heart then you will have to give your own heart. First consciously allow your own commodities to be stolen by others and in this process learn the art of stealing. (25)

The more you will ascend higher and higher the more will you perceive everything on earth to be on the same level. Canals, stretches of marshy land and small ponds will appear to be almost the same. If you want to rise to a great height, you can do it by using the balloon of Name. (26)

Arise and awaken others! Rise up, rise up, right now. Just feel that all individuals represent the same identity. You have all been begotten, but I am ever existent. If I am destroyed and somehow you happen to exist, I shall continue to exist in you. The beginning and the end are the same. Everything is... nothing to fear, just rouse up one and all! (27)

Well, there has been a crash of tremendous power whoever will be seized by you will be energized to the highest degree. Gird up your loins and start your campaign with dogged determination. I am always existent and I shall never cease to exist. (28)

At the stage of deepest degradation, I have appeared in the form of Kalki as the most consummate manifestation of the Divine. (29)

If the fur of a blanket is removed one after another, then what is left of the blanket ? The nature of Brahma can never be expressed by words. Brahma is inherent (natural) in matter. Without the covering of a material- sheath, Atma is beyond the reach of speech and psychic being.
Sound is perceived at first indistinctly (unclear). It takes place not on the exact right side, rather right across the cerebrum with a slant towards the right. There is a distinctive feature in the entire range of sound, and it has to be experienced with discernment (sensitivity). After some progress the bell-sound becomes audible. We are to transcend (go beyond) the region of `Om'. `Om' is not very far, after this 'Om' plane is crossed, gradually emerges the stratum (layer) of Radha Soami. It is approximated to very slowly, degree by degree.
The realization of true `I' becomes stable by repetition of the saying, `Thou art all', `Thou art all'. Contemplation (thinking) about pure `I' also leads to the realization of the unchangeable `I', get identified with the supreme `I' and be attuned accordingly.
Mother! water the plant you have grown with so much care. You have reached your present state by employing your inmost urge of love and you should expand and sublimate your desire. Do not say to God that, `thou belongest to me alone' but keep repeating `thou art the Lord of all'. When you take the fruit of your tree, you should share it with one and all as far as possible. Always refer to your inmost self and materialize its dictates. Oh mother! have the mercy to liberate souls groaning (crying) under bondage. Innumerable souls are wreathing in unbearable agony. Impart to them the technique of acquiring life abundant, otherwise all are sinking constantly. You are the embodiment of the energy that you have absorbed from the womb of the beyond. Now unite the knot of people's thralldom. Just devote yourself entirely towards saving others. The more you will dedicate yourself for others, the more will you realize your true self. The more you advance towards our original self, the more you come to know me. I am your first goal. You should conduct yourself with discrimination. If you are to move, you should choose the path of rectitude (morality). If you have to abandon the wrong path, do it by a determined jerk, and if you are after getting entangled in the labyrinth (maze) of the world, you will commit the same wrong repeatedly. Everything is easy. The more you will indulge in self-aggrandizement , the more will you fetter yourself inextricably inviting endless pain.
Always High thinking leads us upwards. Ultimately comas (unconsciousness) a state which is beyond mind and word. Some also feel I am He.
Both myness and thyness are real but the end is `I'. The more you mix water with deep red, it becomes more and more faint, at last the redness disappears. If you pour one drop of liquid red colour in the ocean, it is not at all perceived but all the same it continues to exit therein.
An egg is not what may be described as round but people are used to call it round.
There may be two concepts about God. He may be said to be non-existent or He may be said to be omnipresent. His existence is so all-pervasive that even all empty space is filled by Him.
If you keep saying `it will be done', nothing will be accomplished thereby. But if you actually do anything to get it done, it gets done. You should develop a maddening passion for God, whenever you are engaged in doing anything. Disseminate (spread) the truth, elevate everyone, and be mad in broadcasting Lord's message. Keep yourself exclusively preoccupied in Kirtan and you will achieve everything. Contemplate (think) constantly without a break even for a second. When the mind is on the plane of volition (desire), activity sprouts (growa) automatically and then our vital core is energized. Will can extricate it from the obstructions that thwart it. Impart a divine madness to one and all.
The lustrous (shiny) form of light is also formless. Light is also a limitation. There is a state which is beyond description. And that is the reality underlying appearances.
A man who is completely God-intoxicated has a steady unflickering mind. Keep repeating name in an absorbed manner.
Whither does the mind roam after death? The world is as if a composite form consisting of various kinds of glass. Our mind functions like the focusing light. The glass mirroring the light will produce an image it is capable of producing.
Rouse (awaken) all, everyone. Provide solace (shelter) to the sinner. Give him shelter and proclaim—"Renounce socalled thousand and one forms of ritualistic Dharma, arising out of passionate desire, protect me alone in and through all you do, I will save you from all sins, so do not give way to grief or dejection." Sound the victory band and declare reverberatingly— "I will save you from all sins. Do not grieve (suffer)." Penetrate everything in a subtle form and burst open in astounding dimensions. Every limitation is melting away as a result of the impact exerted by the unbounded one.
Trust me and give me everything. Sure, be glad, everything will make you glad, spit on and spurn (reject) the sin, not the man—the sinner!

There is no mind, no sovereign, value of sovereign is mind. Without mind sovereign is nothing.
Morning is the indication of the day. Darkness is not indication—Yes darkness of night!
Leave everything and come to me! I will give you everything!

The Second Day : 2nd Ashar, B.S. 1321

Both centripetal and centrifugal (central) Go involve toil (hardwork). Centripetal Go demands more of effort.
A householder Sannyasi has more maddening determination (willpower) than a recluse (hermit).
A leap into fire may be called a sort of burning; again it may mean self-immolation in fire. It depends on varied degrees of heat.
A man has to guard himself against evil. Just turn your gaze within. When Mahaprabhu engaged himself in Kirtan in the midst of an outer circle, the sincere devotees of the inner circle were all alert to save him from the hands of unattached alien people. You indulged in wasting a lot of your energy.
Now I want Sannyasis from among householders. I do not like to have so-called monks who stand aloof from family life. I prefer Nitai.
Rouse (awaken) others. If you find anyone lying, make haste (rush) to chastise (discipline) and chasten (correct) him sternly (firmly).
First accumulate (gather) strength and then capture (attract) people with the aid of your whole-hearted love.
Desire is the root of all ruinous (harmful) mischief.
The means of ascent and descent is one and the same.
The more you belong to me, the more I belong to you. Always remember Name.
If you tear away your own ears, does it not hurt you?
I seek Ideal – intoxicated (under the influence of Ideal person) people. Bring me those people. Mother! Do not allow yourself to be ruined.
Do not disclose the mystery (secret knowledge) to people indiscriminately (aimlessly). Then, why comes the point of intimate people belonging to the closest girdle? People of this circle are as good as kins, they are different allied manifestations of a kindred spirit.
Just see that knowledge is not less essential than devotion. The need for knowledge in this sphere (area) is often greater, because it renders deviation and distortion impossible. Knowledge accompanied by devotion is excellent. Do you know what constitute knowledge? It may be compared to the Punjab Mail. Unenlightened devotion may be likened to mixed trains. Their condition becomes precarious when they happen to collide with mail trains. Mixed trains have more frequent stoppages. So the hazard of collision is almost nil. Express trains are good enough, their speed is also greater. Kirtan may lead to all these paths.
I need people who are mad for divinity. Mother! Thou art the steam of the steamers and locomotive engines. Do thou supply the steam, there is plenty of fire and coal that are essential ingredients for generation of steam. There is also no dearth of coal mines and fire. We cannot apprehend the efficacy of steam till we observe its function. Mother! I implore thee, do thou unfold our understanding in this regard.
Can Brahma be explained or described? It has to be constantly meditated upon. It is beyond Name.
It is proper to follow one's own native bent.
After the demise of Sister Nivedita, another sister like her was not found. She was very true to her ideal. She had a great heart. She is unlike others and she will be adored eternally.
Your Thakur is right here; just have a deep desire to behold him.
Be sure, steady, silent, full-steamed, you have nothing to be afraid of. You are all that exists. As soon as you will feel about someone as an alien, unrelated to you and start harboring (believing) ill-will against him, it will spell (curse) your own ruins. Whenever there is an ideation, there is cognition corresponding to it. In the transcendent plane, all feeling of separateness is obliterated (destroyed). That is the way I hold my being.
Volition (desire) is everything. The house you own is verily yours. The sense of my ness is ineradicable. It clings all through. It may be compared to inextinguishable fire.
Just see, if you beseech (request) mother to untie your knot, she condescend (would) to do so. But he who likes to retain bondage and at the same time prays for deliverance (escape), it becomes abortive (fruitless).
People reap as they sow. Right performance always produces proper result. Sincere atheism (non-belief) is also preferable. You have not done well by indulging in insincerity. It is indisputable that divine will is paramount (supreme). But when people give way to ‘evil exercising their self-will’ and make God responsible for it, how can it be justified?
Strength brings in valor (fearlessness), not to have a moral courage is a variable (inconsistent) sin.
Tell Nagen that knowledge is all inclusive. Yes, you should communicate it to him. A man's master-complex moulds him in accord with it. Then you have no reason to be sorrowful. In the ultimate analysis, your own will is the determining factor.
Just swim in the ocean of Brahma, like the thousand-streamed Ganges. Always think of the Lord. Your success is a matter of certitude (sureness). You will achieve as you exercise your power of volition (wish).

I desire to have pure soul. (1).
Kirtan (loud chanting of divine hymns) has a distinct power of itsown. Perforce, it lifts the mind upward. So Mahaprabhu propagated Kirtan. (3)
Knowledge is essential. Insects are devoid of knowledge, so when theyare placed in a vessel of honey, they meet death by devouring itindiscreetly. (4)
Restless people cannot relish life. They are fickle; they continue to nibble at things haphazardly here and there. (5)
Look here ! Those who say that they cannot develop faith are foolish. (6)
How can we have faith without believing in anything ? (7)
A dead fly is restored to life if warm breath is applied to it. It canbe done by administering warm breath from mouth. Constant heat imparts vital force to it. (9)
Bear in mind! Your mother is verily the mother of the world. Your wife is the mother endowed with divine consciousness. All mothers are yours and mine. Eventually you reach the Supreme Mother. (11)
Many people forget mother and do not worship her (weeping). But the mother’s mercy is infinite. (12)
No one can bind mother. Oh foolish creature! How will you bind her?(13)
Mother is the mother of numerous Gurus. It is She, it is She.(14)
Mother wants pure souls. (16)
All feel blessed by taking the dust of their feet. (17)
Thy will is to get plunged in thee. But how many separate forms should I assume? (18)
Transcend the limits of circumscribed existence and accept mother. (19)
Mahaprabhu could accomplish nothing without the strength granted by mother. (20)
Should all your limitations persist? (21)
You have fortunately got into this fold. You have been able to discover yourself by coming here (22)
When the eternal is had, the evanescent drops off automatically. It has to. (23)
Allow not mother to know her true nature. As soon as she attains that awareness, she will shun her earthly abode. Mother is shrouded in darkness; no sooner does she recognize her pristine identity than she will disappear. (24)
You will be endowed with devotion. You are devotion incarnated. (25)
Perform Kirtan. Do propagate it. Kirtan is something superb. It is verily the musk. It may be likened to picric acid. It destroys ignorance and oblivion about supreme knowledge.(26)
Name, Name, Name (27)
To have faith, we are to invoke our indwelling faith. He who proclaims non-belief dwells in the domain of darkness. (28)
Look here! I shall depart. Just pay heed to a secret. The Chaitanya and Nityananda you speak of, dispelled the darkness of eccentric people by huggling them in their breasts bubbling with love and by touching their feet and thus they redeemed legions of Jagai-Madhai. (29)
I shall leave this mortal coil but shall dwell in all. (30)
He is not only beyond the reach of speech and mind but verily is He the blue-bodied Vanamali, besmeared with sandal paste, dressed in golden-yellow fabric. (31)
He is seated in white throne, under the shade of an umbrella where the prime uncaused sound or logos vibrates in unutterable resonance. (32)
Jesus Christ, Jesus, Jesus ! (33)
I am the void that persists after the process of unceasing elimination. It gets intermixed in the unending void. (34)
Devotion should co-exist with knowledge. Just listen to me—a vast field of activity lies ahead. (35)
Ask your supreme self. He also will confirm that if knowledge tempered with devotion is inculcated among people, they will not court disaster. (36)
Continued pursuit in this direction will lead to supreme truth. (37)
Just see! Divine absorption is a set of chloroform. When the chloroform is applied, mind dwells in the vital plane, man loses physical consciousness. Such a phenomenon has to be created. (38)
I shall go. (39)
Ask people to remain intoxicated in Kirtan. Otherwise allailments will seize them and they will invite ruin. Forced repression does not deliver the desired goods. Kirtan constitutes the sole spiritual culture. No other form of spiritual exercise is needful. First reach the culminating point. Then move as it pleases you. (39)
You are attaining purity. Those who are pure are ever established in maturity. Man has to be put in the furnace of affliction to get rid of all dress and dirt. The fire of Kirtan consumes all filth residing in humans. (40)
Organize Kirtan on a gigantic scale. (41)
Have faith in what I do. (43)
Power flourishes where mental strength abounds. The prime asset is mind, conquest of mind leads to mastery over the vital apparatus and this eventually results in the realization of the universal `I'. The more you yield to procrastination, the more will veils cover you up. Just join the company of the divinely mad. Then you won't have to revert to the old passionate way of life. (44)
Krishna is endowed with infinite strength. Brother! Do not forget yourself. Ransack your heart to find your eternal self. Perform all that you have to do. This will reveal your true nature. Do not forget your real self. Just see! Tear yourself away from all that is inessential. Break into pieces all the fetters that enslave you and throw yourself with all you own, right into the vertex of the unending swelling sea of life. There is no happiness if evotion is confined to our own parents alone. What a tremendous delight we derive when our filial sentiments get sublimated! Again what an utter able bliss we experience when our filial devotion gets channelised towards the supreme `I'. Now our parents alone feel deeply concerned about whatever happens to us in the course of our life. But then all the parents of the world will start feeling for us exactly as our own parents do in relation to us. (46)
Mark it well! When children come across a cucurbitaceous fruit, they rush ahead to use it as a plaything. But when they break it open, they find a loathsome ugly kernel that may be likened to the faces of a crow. The act of getting oneself trapped and captivated by the deceptive glamour of the world is indeed the height of folly, as it is evident in the case of silly children mentioned above. (47).
Listen to me—When `I'-ness retains its distinct identity even after reaching the highest peak of super conscious realization; then it can express itself in an audible form just as an individual can do in a conscious normal state. (48)
Plunge yourself headlong in the task of fulfilling the mission. You are all in all. You will dispatch bagfuls of damned souls to the zone of deliverance. (49)
Just say the right thing to reaffirm faith. The ticket for the beyond is to be bought with the coin of faith. Let us all march onward and forward. Then I as well as others will be energized and vitalized. (50)
Spread Kirtan. Practice it intensively. I shall bestow everything. If you practice spiritual existence as instructed by the Guru only once or twice a day, that hardly yields a tangible result: you should maintain an unbroken meditative mind for all the time without any respite. But it is good to follow a regular routine. It builds the mind but Kirtan prepares the mind instantly and thoroughly. A man simply needs to participate in it with burning faith and zeal. (51)
Just think, understand and realize that money does not have any intrinsic value. (52)
See men as varied manifestations of your Ideal. (53)
Oh! What a terrific treachery it is to stab people on the pretext of quenching their thirst! It is horrible indeed! Oh! How wretched is the lot of guileful `Kula-gurus' given to deliberate deceitfulness! (54)
You have to renounce nothing in the world. Practice Name and all that is detrimental to divine life will quit you immediately finding no shelter in you. I dwell everywhere as the stay of all that exists in any form be that a discharge from the bowels, or a goat or a ram. (55)
Oh, strength does not belong to the physique. Its seat and source is verily the mind. He who starts cogitating himself as a cow imbibes the fallen fate of a cow. (56)
Oh, eternal spirit! Who thou art! Anyway thou hast initiated an interesting game in the form of ever-continuing import and transport of individual souls. Propagate Kirtan; let it penetrate the heart of all. Love can grow only by having recourse to love. You have to cultivate it by your volitional endeavor. (57)
Those who indulge in vanity, have no way out. Their faith also is full of darkness. A parasite kind of creeper grows centering around the plum tree. It saps the life-giving juice of the tree, and thus destroys the tree, and itself thrives at the cost of its sustainer. (58)
The indolent intention of developing maddening urge for the Ideal hardly succeeds in bringing the superb state. Better do become mad for him. This divine madness can be had only by being so in reality. Just jump! Why do you give shelter to fear before taking the leap? (59)
No one other than a person himself is the agent of his death. You are the builder of your own destiny. It is you who make or mar yourself. (60)
Where there is spirit, there is heaven. Without spirit matter is nothing, but matter is matter with spirit. Yes! (61) * [Spoken in English by Sri Sri Thakur Himself]

हर एक नारी अपनीही माँ का अलग अलग रूप होता है और हर माँ साक्षात् जगत्जननी का रुप है। परस्त्री को देखते समय अपने अन्दर मातृत्व की भावना जागनी चाहिऐ। अगर ऐसा नही हो सका तो परस्त्री को छुना तो दूर उसकी तरफ दूषित नजर से देखना भी हमारे विनाश का कारण बन सकता है।

दुनिया मे मनुष्य को जो दूःख मिलते है, बहुतांश दूःख 'कामिनी कांचन' कि लालसा से उत्पन्न होते है। अगर आपको जीवन मे सफल बनना है, तो आप को इन दो चिजोसे बहुत दूर रहना पड़ेगा। भगवान श्री रामकृष्ण ने भी इस पर बहुत बहुत जोर दिया था।

कामिनी यानी कामुक स्त्री से आप कामुकता निकाल देंगे तो वह आपको माँ जैसी लगेगी। उसी तरह अगर आप किसीभी परस्त्री कि तरफ अपनी माँ कि नजर से देखेंगे तो आप के अन्दर के विषय वासना के विष का अमृत बन सकता है,और आपको हर एक स्त्री अपनी माँ जैसी लगने लगेगी।

परस्त्री को आप माँ कि जगह कामिनी या पतित स्त्री के रूप से देखने लगोगे, तो सर्वनाश होकर रहेगा ही, इसमे कोई संदेह नही।

मन के अन्दर के विषय वासना को मिटाने के लिए कुछ विशेष प्रयास कराने होंगे, रिक्त मन विशयवासना का शिकार बन जता है, इसलिये इस मन को उच्चतम तत्वोमे ढालकर उसे हमेशा व्यस्त रखना पड़ता है। सृष्टि रचना का अभ्यास, सृष्टि विकास का शास्त्र, ब्रह्म, ब्रह्मांड और मेरा उनसे संबंध आदि उच्चतम तत्वोका अभ्यास करानेसे मन को विशयवासना के बजाय उच्चतम चिजोमे रूचि पैदा होने लगेगी। मन जिस चीज का हमेशा ध्यान या अभ्यास करता रहता है, उसमे ही उसे रूचि पैदा होती है। हम विशयवासना के बारे मे सोचना बंद करके उच्चतम विचारोंके बारे मे सोचते रहेंगे, तो हमारा विशयवासना से अपनेआप छुटकारा हो जाएगा।

विशयवासना के बारेमे हम जीतनी भी बाते करेंगे या सोचेंगे उतनेही हम उसमे फसते चले जायेंगे, इसलिये भूलकर भी इनके बारे मे सोचना और बोलना नही।

हमेशा यह याद रहे कि हम सब परमेश्वर कि संतान है। परमेश्वर कि संतान कभी दुर्बल और पापी नही होती है। परमेश्वर कि संतान हमेशा पवित्र, वीर और साहसी होती है। यह बात अगर आपकी समझ मे आयी तो आपको शीघ्र ही स्वर्ग के द्वार खुल जायेंगे। और अगर यह बात अपकी समझ मे नही आयी तो आप दुर्बल और अपवित्र बने रहोगे। और जबतक आपके विचारोमे और कृति मे यह बात नही आएगी तब तक आपके मन मे यह दुर्गंधी कि हम दुर्बल है, बनी रहेगी।

हमे निरंतर प्रयास करके हमारे मन के अन्दर कि यह छुपी हूई इस मलिनता को निकालना होगा। इस दुर्बलता को अपने अन्दर से निकालने के लिए हमे लगातार कोशिशे करनी पडेगी, चाहे इस दरम्यान हमे कुछ असफलता झेलनी पडेगी, लेकिन इस मार्ग से ना हटते हुये निरंतर आगे बढ़ते चलोगे तो मुक्ति अवश्य हासिल करके रहोगे।

दुर्बल मन हमेशा संदिग्ध रहता है, वह किसी भी चीज पर भरोसा नही कर सकता और अपना विश्वास खो बैठता है। सदैव दूःखी और रोगी रहता है। उसका सारा जीवन ही अंधःकारमय होकर रहता है। उसके सभी सुख और दूःख, अशांति मे डूबे जाते है। उसके सारे सुख और चैन, दूःख मे बदल जाते है। आलस्य मे सारा जीवन निरर्थही नष्ट हो जाता है। दुर्बल मन मे प्रेम, श्रध्दा और भक्ती का उगम नही होता है। दुसरे व्यक्ति कि करुणाजनक या विपत्तिजनक दूःखमय परिस्थिती देखकर दुर्बल व्यक्ति खुद निराश होकर और दूःखी हो जाता है और कभी कभी रो पड़ता है और प्रायः टूट जाता है।

लेकिन मानसिक रूप से बलवान या सबल ह्रदय वाला इन्सान, हर एक परिस्थितियोमे अविचल रहकर, हर एक विपत्तियों का समाधान निकालकर सबका दूःख हल कर लेता है। भगवान बुद्ध कि तरह प्यारभरे आनंदमय व्यवहार से सबका मन जित लेता है और सबकी समस्यायोंका हल ढूँढ लेता है। आप अपने आप को दुर्बल, कायर और दुराचारी मत समझो। अपने परमपिता कि ओर देखकर प्रार्थना करो कि,

'हे, परमपिता, अब मैं जान गया हूँ कि,
मैं आपकी संतान हूँ, मैं कायर या दुर्बल नही हूँ।
आपके ज्योतिर्मय स्वरूप को छोड़कर,

मैं अब अंधःकारमय नरक कि तरफ नही दौडुंगा।'

Goal of SATSANG

What is the Ultimate Goal of SATSANG?

It is the resolute conviction of Satsang that just as the handful of men who gathered around Sri Sri Thakur fifty years ago, steadily increased over the following decades, from hundreds into thousands and today number in hundreds of thousand; so in the next decade, those hundreds of thousand will grow into crores out of that universal and desperate urge for life and growth.

Further, as this spontaneous expansion takes place, we and our children will find that the ancient racial memory of an era when men were Gods and walked upon the earth – that memory which stirs in the deep unconscious of all of us – will have been unknowingly transformed into a reality – for ourselves, our family, our country and the world. When Late Deshbandhu C.R. Das approached Thakur at Calcutta a few years before his sudden demise and accepted him as his spiritual guide, Thakur said— “I know of no other politics, if service to the necessities of man is polities then I am a politician to my backbone. I understand love; I can appreciate what service is. I love life, not death”. Thakur can repair men like motor cars in the hands of an expert engineer and the nervous, debilitated and imbecile bloom in health and vigor if they have the sincerity to keep his company for sometime, with a few strokes of his chisel he can create life and energy in a block of lifeless mass, the hopeless beam with hope, the weak quiver with thrills of energy unfelt before and the depressed became inspired with his slogan of love, life and lift. Thakur’s life–drama is played not in the stirring fields of politics; not in the superficeries of the masses nor on the platform, he worked smilingly in the depth of the human soul with his un-vulnerable love, service and activity, and can rouse the dreams of a Ceasar in the heart of a Bangalee and the inspiration of a John of Arc in the soft flickering of a Bangalee illiterate women’s heart. As Thakur’s odd combination of practical religion, visionary idealism and intuitive insight attracted the attention of larger and larger number of people, his deep compassion and willing acceptance of the frustrated, the social outcast, the insane and incapable remained what one has described as his greatest asset and greatest liability. This sense of unlimited responsibility for everyone who came, gave to everyone a vision of an almost universal love practically applied. However, for those who feel that love is synonymous only with the good and beautiful the sight of the diseased, the demented and the undeserving, all finding hope and shelter with him was distributing…at times unnerving. At one place Sri Sri Thakur stated that he shelters evil in the hope that someday they will change, he never supported evil, he told that he was the foolish father of fallen son. The remarkable thing is that Thakur inspired everyone and waited for till his transformation is achieved.

Satsang’s Large-Scale Activities

At present there are more than two thousand branches of Satsang located not only in India but also Bangladesh, Burma, Europe and America. From these centres the principles of life and growth given by Sri Sri Thakur are being spread to many people. Satsang Vihars (centres) have been set up in several different provinces of India including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Andhrapradesh, Maharastra, Gujrat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, etc.

Thousands of workers for Sri Sri Thakur, surmounting all kinds of hindrances and difficulties, have gone out to propagate his practical and all-fulfilling message. His special workers are divided into five categories called Jajak, Adhwarjyu, Saha-Prati-Ritwik, Prati-Ritwik and Ritwik. The latter three are empowered to initiate people in the faith of Sri Sri Thakur.

At Deoghar different activities like those at Pabna have gradually been set up. Nothing was performed with a view to building up an organization; everything grew up to fulfill the needs of people. At present the following activities are functioning:

Satsang Philanthropy (SPO), the main office of Satsang, occupies a large three-storey building. Hundreds of people work here.
Satsang Computer Centre (SCC), housed in the main office building is an unique large complex of its kind. It caters to various works of the office.
Ananda Bazar [Common Kitchen] (AB). More than one thousand people are given food here daily. Free meals are provided for the devotees who come from outside to visit the Ashram. During the two main Utsavs and four Ritwik conferences held each year, for which thousands and thousands of devotees come from different provinces of India, all of them have their meals here; and this joyous function goes on for about one week.
Satsang Chemical Works (SCW). Whenever anyone came to Sri Sri Thakur afflicted with ailments, his kind heart would overflow with compassion. He gave many formulas for medicines that would remedy their diseases. The Satsang Chemical Works came into existence to produce these medicines.
A large herb garden has been started by Sri Sri Borda. He uses the rare herbs grown here in the preparation of medicines which have cured many previously incurable diseases, thus fulfilling one of our Lord Sri Sri Thakur.
Satsang Press (SPH) has printed the compilations of Sri Sri Thakur’s messages and many other books, and from here the magazines Alochana (Bengali), Ligate (English), Satwati (Hindi), Agambani (Assamese), Urjana (Oriya) and Swasti Sevak (Bengali) are issued monthly.
Satsang Water Supply Department (SWSD). Water is pumped from a well near the Darwa River through pipes to supply the Ashram.
Satsang Engineering and Mechanical Work-shop (SE&MW). Most of the things necessary for Ashram are manufactured here.
Satsang Carpentry. Many wooden articles for the use of Satsang Ashram are made here.
Satsang Electrical Division (SED). There are five high power generators for emergency supply of electricity to the Ashram Area, over and above the generators are exclusively meant for computer centre.
Satsang Guest Houses (SGH). There are several guest houses for the accommodation of visiting devotees and guests.
Among the many other facilities are the Congregational Prayer House, Satsang Library (Amardyuti Bidi-Mandir), Binapani Vidya Mandir (Upper Primary School and Girls section of Satsang Tapovan High School) and Satsang Cow-shed.
Satsang Tapovan High School for Boys. This is an ideal educational institution under the supervision of Ideal-minded teachers.
Amardyuti Satsang College. This college provides instruction of Arts, Science and Commerce. Also, preparations are being made to establish a separate college for Law.
Post Graduate Institution. This section was opened with the special permission of the University Grants Commission. It is the preliminary base of Shandilya University.
Satsang Charitable Hospital (SCH). Sri Sri Borda himself used to treat many patients, keeping them in his house. His great desire to help the sick is being materialized in Satsang hospital. Sri Sri Thakur spoke of a Hospital with about five hundred beds. Towards the fulfillment of his desire, about sixty beds have so far been set up. This hospital now has a special reputation because of the inspiration and direction of Sri Sri Borda. Its sacred, enlivening atmosphere, along with the care it provides, greatly increases the patients’ power of recovery. A comprehensive plan for the hospital’s development has been worked out. In the newly constructed conference room medical seminars are held twice in a year attended by Satsangee and other medical professionals from different parts of the country and abroad. The hospital also has a library of its own.

At present the following departments and wards are in operation: Departments:-

Out-Patient Deptt., Charitable Dispensary, X-ray Deptt., Pathology, Serology and Bio-chemistry, General Surgery, Gynecology and obstetrics, Orthopedics, General Medicines, Psychiatry and Cardiology. Wards:- Indoor Male Ward, Indoor Female Ward and Emergency Ward.

Shandilya University. One of Sri Sri Thakur’s primary desires was for the establishment of this University, and this is gradually being accomplished by Sri Sri Borda.

Ganga-Darwa Project. Sri Sri Thakur particularly wanted that water from the holy Ganges should flow through the Darwa, a river near Satsang Deoghar which is nearly dry except during the rainy season. The devotees of Bihar, to whom Sri Sri Thakur has kindly given responsibility in accomplishing this, are making great efforts to effect this project.

Kristbandhab Natyashilpam. This club is the cultural centre of Satsang Deoghar. It organizes open theatre (Jatra) and regular theatre performances, etc. on various occasions.

Satsang Publishing House (SPH). The greatest fulfiller of the age comes to goad passion-affected men toward the good. In this time of tremendous chaos and absolute tyranny also he has come down, and in his messages he has offered a full and wholesome vision of life. Satsang Publishing House has published the books containing Sri Sri Thakur’s sayings in solution of the world’s problems.

THE HOLY 119TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF YUG PURUSHOTTAM SRI SRI THAKUR ANUKULCHANDRA WAS HELD ON MARCH 11, 2007 AT THE PREMISES OF DINESHPUR SATSANG VIHAR. WE STARTED FROM DELHI SATSANG VIHAR TO ATTEND THE UTSAV BY A 15 SEATER BUS AT 5 P.M. ON 10TH MARCH AND REACHED DINESHPUR SATSANG VIHAR AT 1.30 A.M. ON 11TH MARCH.

AT DAWN THE USHAKIRTAN WAS PERFORMED, ATTENDED THE MORNING PRAYER AND THEREAFTER THE SRI SRI THAKUR'S MESSAGES WERE READ OUT FROM HIS HOLY SCRIPTURES.

Silchar readies for religious conclave

Dec. 11: The district headquarters town of Silchar is gearing up for its largest ever religious jamboree — the 119th birth anniversary of the Hindu spiritual guru Sri Sri Thakur Anukulchandra — this Sunday.

The organisers of the event expect a turnout of about one lakh devotees at the mass prayer session and general assembly.

“It will be the region’s largest ever gathering of people at one place at a given time. Besides the neighbouring areas of Karimganj, Hailakandi and North Cachar Hill districts, scores of devotees from the adjoining states of Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur are expected to attend the function,” one of them said.
Police sources said a security blueprint has been drawn up to ensure smooth conduct of the religious assembly.
A large contingent of the forces, including CRPF and India Reserve Battalion personnel, will be deployed along with trained volunteers to control the crowds.

Borda, Thakur’s eldest son and the head of the cult, will lead the rally in.

An anandabazar (free kitchen) with a capacity to serve prasad to 8,000 persons at a time will be set up for the convenience of the devotees.

The organisers have procured large utensils from Calcutta, Guwahati and Deogarah in Bihar — the hub of the Satsang — for the purpose. They have requisitioned the services of 408 cooks from different parts of the country to prepare food for the devotees for two days.

At least 350 quintals of rice, 200 quintals of pulses and 300 quintals of assorted vegetables will be required each day to feed the congregation.

The organisers have booked 550 hotel rooms, 19 schools, the railway guest house, inter-state

bus terminus and the Agriculture Science Centre to accommodate the devotees arriving from far-off places. As many as 16 makeshift dharamshalas (dormitories) have also been set up in two fields.

SAT SANG is the community of the lovers of existence stands for 'Being and Becoming'.

His father was Shiv Chandra Chakravarty and mother was Manmohini Devi. He was born in a hamlet called Himaitpur, in Pabna district of Bangladesh, erstwhile East Bengal in pre-independent India. He was born on fourteenth September 1888 and passed away on twenty sixth January 1969. He lived in society, with family and friends. He had experienced all the worries and anxieties of a human life in struggle. He was a father of three sons and a daughter. Being elder son of a poor Indian family, he had his family burden to carry from an early age for his widowed mother, two younger brothers and a sister. He was husband of two wives and father of three sons and a daughter. He was victim of all kinds of social, economic, political, ethnic and communal upheaval that his time passed through. His dress was just minimum and yet quite decent. He followed all the trait of the culture and tradition in which he was born and brought up. He subjected himself to the laws of the land. When he became old and physically weak, he passed through all the ordeals of illness, seclusion of old age and defiance of younger generation. Arise before dawn,

What is Istabhrity?
"Ista ke bharan posan kora" i.e to fulfill the Almighty by one's oblation and after thirty days your oblation should reach to the "Istasthan”.

Istavriti becomes flawless if one offers Istavriti before accepting any eatables and sends it to Istasthan at the end of the month. What are conditions to perform Istabhrity?
We must toothbrush and take bath first. Or after brush we shud at least change to fresh clothes. Ishtabhriti cannot be done in the same dress in which we have slept. And not on that bed as well. In fact our body shud not be in contact with anything which has been in touch with our body while sleeping and with unclean things and what we call ''jootha" clothes. We shud not do ishtabhriti when we are physically down. And women cannot do it during the periods. In all such cases, Ishtabhriti of all missed days have to be done after we recover. - Yashendra

Why should I surrender to Sadguru or God?

Everyone in this world is in search of happiness. Ignorant of its source, we try to find it in materialistic comforts. We worship the idols, go to holy places, and seek seclusion in jungles in search of God. We are not successful, as God cannot be realized in worldly places or idols. God resides within us, and we must look within ourselves to find the path that leads to God. To find peace and happiness we must unite our soul with God. Only this union can make us happy. The method of uniting the soul with God can be learnt from the sadguru who is already united with God.

A Sadguru is personified God. Christ defined the Master as "The Word made Flesh". A Sadguru, and SatNaam are the true means to unite the soul with God. In this physical world God comes to us in the form of a Perfect living Master.

If we have a keen desire to realize God, the Perfect Master comes to help us. Mere appeal to forgive without any inclined service of elatement, is a downright hypocritic deal that drags down with a genteel aristocracy
of customary apology.

Where urge flows on with a responsive contentful compliance enticement weeps, hindrance screams, persecution pants, the repellent are repelled
with conscientious rebuke, service waves light with fragrant fumes,
adherence awakes with every smiling bliss.
When luxury deprives the call of life, outrage outbreaks like a hunger-stricken demon with an ardent effulgence for life and a faltering fright
to perish.
To demand without any satisfactory service is a taunt to grateful gift !
To rule oneself is to adjust oneself with one’s environment towards life and growth,— and that is the autocracy which nature dictates.
Do not excite the need of luxury in a man; excite his love for the principle.
Be equipped and organized with your immediate environs with service of soul : thus make your existence firm ; then try for further becoming
with a furtherance of further services after a push of further magnanimous magnitude; then with appliances of services that make the further environment approach towards further becoming, elude the obstacle that looms before and make your becoming move with a bigger existence of bigger environs.
Never attend anyone with an argumentative approach but tactful, interesting talk with sympathetic hearing and due appreciation brings out blissful, active support and embrace from the core of one’s heart.
Derivative insight into the intent of a word is the proper guidance to its proper use and effect ; whereas a lazy hearsay conception is a misguider
to attain the fact.
Never be in clash with the resourceful, intelligent and honourable;
but carry your purpose for the principle in so tactful and elating a manner
that you may get good, friendly, active service which may bring self-complaisance to them and you.
Curious, inquisitive liking begets memory.
He who sees everything in Him—the Self, and He in everything, in sense and essence, is a Sage.
Attend to redress calamities with cautious service, evading untoward effect,— it’s the natural characteristic of a kinsman and a friend.

When false rumour misleads confidence, ignore not your confidence,

God cares little what one thinks, but He sees how one behaves and what one does !
Do behave as you think good, and do sincerely what is opt thereto.

Blessed is he who chooseth Lord in love for love with a follow of contented forbearance in persecution ; heaven comes forth to elect him with a crown
that shines to make others shine,— freedom glows there ; but those who have not that bliss of freedom, cannot make others free ; hence, it is a misery to be drawn through them to freedom !
If traditional Varnashramic division of professional labour be established,—
rinsed and renovated,— unemployment will be off, efficiency will be on,
capability will spring up, unfurling of instinctive talents will effulge, State will stay on unresisting !
He, the man who is supported by the majority of every community as their own, is the blessed normal Representative of human society and a boon to democracy and life to election.
When every individual with his community for the common interest to uphold the mission of life and growth with every free access, enters in a common platform conjointly to serve one another to hasten prosperity and welfare
of every socio-individual truly, it may be called a blessed Socio-communistic
Democratic Congress.
To adore the great with devoted service is the way to be great, because bliss is materialized in them through their devotion and worship.
To adore the Great, ignoring the God, is a meaningless, tuberous exuberance that melts all in despondence!
Is there any ‘ism’ in God ! He is the consummation of all ‘ism’, so He is sacred, and surrender is the only sacrament, Providence is His name thereby!
God is for all, Prophets are for all, no compartment,— but they are the fulfillers of all compartments in their equity; to create; ism’ is the Satanic dissuasion of people from unity— the God !
Where surrender is the essential life-tenor of Dharma, uphold of existence,
renunciation of passionate crave and adherence and service to the Ideal are the normal tenor and tune; can it be of a democratic form? God is ever auto-cratic, Dharma—Providence—the Law of life and becoming is ever auto-cratic, Prophets are ever auto-cratic, will-to-achieve should ever surrender

The Pursuit of Truth.

Preface

Atulchandra Bhattacharrya was one of the dearest devotees of Sree Sree Thakur Anukulchandra, the Supreme Love. His employment was to take him away from Pabna, where he was posted as stationmaster at the Bajitporeghat steamer station. So on the eve of the inpending painful separation from his Beloved he felt extremely distressed and prayed with tears of love that Thakur with His own hand write down messages to guide him and keep him ever inspired with divine thought-currents. This was in the Bengali year 1316 (1910 A. D.) when Thakur was only twenty-two years old. Then in one spontaneous outpouring, in the course of one night, Sree Sree Thakur wrote down these messages unfolding everlasting life and light. The prayer of the devotee had ushered into the world the benign flow of celestial stream that would enliven him along with every other human soul through the ages. Since the Bengali year 1325 (1918 A. D.) these supreme messages have been made available as the book called Satyanusaran (The Pursuit of Truth). In 1950 A. D. it was translated into English by the publisher, with the assistance of R. A. Hauserman. In the presence of Sree Sree Thakur, the translation was read out, discussed and compared with the Bengali by the publisher, Krishna Prasanna Bhattacharyya, Sarat Chandra Halder, Prafulla Kumar Das, Nani Gopal Chakraborty, E. J. Spencer, R. A. Hauserman and others; and it received Sree Sree Thakur’s approval.

The degeneration of humanity began at that moment

when the unseen God was made infinite and,

ignoring the Seers, the worship of Their Sayings began.

Oh Mankind! If you desire to invoke your God, forget sectarian conflict.

Be regardful to all the past Prophets.

Be attached to your living master or God and

take only those who love Him as your own.

Because all the past Prophets are consummated
in the divine Man of the present.
Oh you who would devotees be with hope for name and riches.

Don’t make me your Lord & Master.

First of all, we must wage war on weakness. We must be bold and brave; for weakness is sin incarnate! Drive it away at one – this depressing, blood-sucking vampire! Say – you are bold, the offspring of Might; believe - you ARE a son of Father the Supreme! Before all else, be daring, be sincere. Then it is clear you have the right to enter the kingdom of heaven. With the least weakness you cannot be truly sincere, and so long as your thoughts and words do not agree, the dirt within shall not be touched. Once word and thought become alike, the dirt cannot collect within. The hidden rubbish floats up in words and sin cannot remain within. Failure need not be weakness; to fail to try is weakness. If, despite your all-out effort in anything, you fail to succeed, no harm; carry on; don’t stop! That unblemished effort must carry you toward the goal. Weak minds are always suspicious. They can never trust. Their faith has been lost; so they are generally sickly, tricky, sensually inclined. For them, all of life is a burning. Ultimately joy and sorrow are dissolved in despair. What is pleasure, what is pain, they cannot differentiate. If asked, they sigh, “What’s the difference!” Ever restless, their lives deteriorate in dullness. Love and regard has no place in the weak heart. To be anxious about one’s own distress, suffering or death on seeing that of others and to be broken, bewildered and distraught thereby is weakness. But the eyes of those who are strong are always seeking for a remedy in everything they do and in such a way that no one is shattered while in that condition. To find the remedy with love, as did Lord Buddha, is the sign of a courageous heart. Say not you are timid! Say not you are a coward! Say not you are evil-minded! Look towards Father! Speak fervently, “Oh, I am Your son. Within me there is no more dullness, no more weakness. I am no longer a coward! Never again forgetting. You will I run towards hell with my back towards Your light crying, ‘Darkness, darkness, darkness’!”
Repent, but see that you have not to repent again. When you will be repentant for your misdeeds, at that very moment you will be pardoned by the Supreme Father, and you will understand it by the heavenly consolation you find in your heart. That will make you courteous, peaceful and cheerful. It should be understood that he who repents but commits the same blunder again, must fall soon into deadening misery. To repent in words only is not repentance at all. It is rather an obstruction to feeling repentance at heart. When real repentance comes, all its signs express themselves in varying degrees.
Almost all the miseries men have in the world come from the addiction to ‘Kamini-kanchan’ (women and gold). It is better to remain as far away as possible from these two. Lord Ramkrishna enjoined on everyone to remain far, far, far away from Kamini-kanchan. If ‘Kam (lust) be dropped from ‘Kamini’, ‘ini’ (shi) becomes Ma. Poison becomes elixir. And Ma is always Mother – never ‘kamini’. To add ‘gi’ to Ma is catastrophe. Beware! Don’t lose thyself taking Ma as ‘Magi’ (fallen woman). Everyone’s Mother is the Mother of the world. Every woman is another form of one’s own Mother. Think in this fashion. If filial thoughts be not heartfelt, one should not touch woman. The farther away from them one remains, the better. Not to look upon their faces is better yet. He who only wails, “My passion and pride do not go, do not go,” will find they never go. One should become habituated to those
activities and thoughts which have no scent of pride and passion; then the mind forgets them. If thoughts of passion and pride do not arise in the mind, how can they show up? The way out is to remain always absorbed in higher thoughts and activities. Investigation into the science of creation, mathematics and chemistry controls lust. Any kind of enticing conversation on ‘Kamini-Kanchan’ can bring attraction for them. So, the rather one stays away from such talks, the better.
Contraction is dejection. Expansion is delight. There is a lack of happiness in that which brings weakness and fear in the heart and that is grief. Desire unfulfilled is misery. Don’t expect anything. Be preparing for every situation. What can grief do to you? Nobody is miserable by nature. If one wishes, he can drive it out. Pray to the Supreme Father:
“Thy will is good. I don’t know what will make me good. Let Thy will be fulfilled in me.” And be ready to accept that. Joy will remain and sorrow will not touch you. Be not the cause of another grief; none will be the cause of your grief. Misery and happiness are both modes of mind. To lack the thoughts and deeds befitting the desire is misery. You may serve the world in a thousand ways, but you cannot destroy its misery until the sense of inadequacy be removed from the heart. Dharma alone can do that.
If you want to prosper in Sadhana’ (avowed activity), give up hypocrisy. With the hope of getting a good name from others, the hypocrite mainly deceives himself and due to his little faith, he deprives himself of the real gift of others. You may speak volumes, but you can never find real happiness unless you become truly elevated. The inner feeling does not come out in the words of hypocrites; so their faces remain cold even with words of joy. What can words do? The spirit does not throb within the heart. The sea of bliss is bitter-salty to the hypocrite. Though he go to the ocean, he cannot quench his thirst. The simple man, like a swallow, has eyes turned upwards. The hypocrite, like a vulture, has eyes always downward. Be little, no matter, but keep your eyes turned upward. What is the use of being big, but like a vulture with eyes always looking down from on high. Be not a hypocrite! Don’t be deceived and don’t deceive others.
This is very true: whenever the tendency grows to see another’s fault, then that fault has made its home in you. Then and there, without delay that evil tendency should be smashed and swept away! Then you are safe. Otherwise, all will be destroyed. If your eyes see only other’s evil, you will never be able to love anyone. And he, who cannot see truth, can never be true. Your eyes will be as unclouded as your mind and so clear the world will appear before you. At first, try with all your might to find good in what you see, and breed this habit in your very bones! If your tongue be always slanderous – unable to speak good of others, never pass an opinion on anyone. Try within to hate your own habit and grimly determine to be rid of that hell of slander in the future. To vilify others is to defile oneself with their defects. To spread good of others makes one’s own nature good unconsciously. But one should not praise others with a selfish motive. That is flattery. Generally, in such
cases, thoughts and words do not agree. This is very bad and the faculty to express one’s independent opinion is lost thereby.
The stay of all existence is Dharma, and He is the Supreme Fulfiller. Dharma never becomes many. It is always one. There is no variety of it. View may be many – even as many as there are people. Still, Dharma cannot be many. In my opinion, to speak of Hindu Dharma, Christian Dharma, Mohammedan Dharma, Buddhist Dharma, etc. is wrong; rather, they are so many views. In fact, there is no opposition in the views – different views, the same way – feeling One in many forms. Each faith is for the expansion of avowed activity. That can be in many forms and as much as is gained by the expansion, so
much the realization – wisdom. So Dharma is based upon realization – to be ‘real’ in nature.
If you long for good, give up conceit of knowledge. Listen to everyone and do whatever helps to expand your heart. No other passion creates such a hindrance to knowledge as does conceit of knowledge. If you want to teach, think not you are a teacher only. “I am a teacher”: this ‘teach-conceit’ hinders one from learning. As far away as you keep pride, so far your vision or wisdom expands. When the ego dissolves, then and there, the soul becomes the possessor of all qualities – the Absolute.
If you go with pride to examine a true Master, a loving Sage or Saint, you will only see yourself in Him and will come away deceived. The test is to feel blessed in the race of a true Master by approaching Him without prejudice or preconception, with a loving heart, humility and as little pride as possible. He can never be tested on the touchstone of pride, but as if torn by the horns of a ram, He can be rent into pieces by real humility. As the sparkle of a diamond, which remains in coal and dirt, can only be seen after thorough cleansing, so also, He Who lives in society as an ordinary man can illumine the world with His sparkle only by the washings with love. The lover alone can know Him; so keep the company of lovers and worshipers of Existence. He may manifest Himself. A proud man can examine proud man. How can he fathom one whose pride is dissolved? He is as strange and queer to him as a wise man is to a stark illiterate.
After taking the shelter of a true Master, think independently and express your own opinions respectfully. Reading books don’t become like a book. But try to breed its essence in your bones. “Pull the husk to draw the seed.” Don’t pass any opinion on or give up anything after only superficial study. No real knowledge is gained about a thing until it has been seen thoroughly, and what opinion can you give if you have no knowledge about it? Whatever you do, try to see the truth in it. To see the truth in a thing means to know how it exists, and that is wisdom. About the things you do not know give no advice to others.
If you are unable to give up your defect even after knowing it, do not ruin others by supporting it in any way. If you be good yourself, thousands of people will be good seeing your example. If you be bad, you will find no one to sympathize with you in your distress because being bad, you have made your environment bad. Know this for certain:
“You are responsible for the present and future of yourself, your family, your environment and your country. It is not right to start any activity with hope for name and honor. But to the extent you do any work unselfishly, name and honor must serve you. What is done for the self is selfish. What is done for others is selflessness. Merely to ask nothing for self or others is not selflessness. Give away! Desire nothing for yourself, and you will see that everything is becoming yours.
Try to give others as you desire to have. To proceed with this understanding much is enough. Everyone will like you and love you spontaneously. Being just, try to make everyone happy in an honest way. You will find that many are trying to make you happy. Be careful – don’t try to make anyone happy at the cost of your ‘self’; then your troubles will know no end.
Work on, but be not enslaved. If a change of circumstances brings an undesirable change in your heart, know for certain you have enslaved yourself by your work. Do not be confined by any kind of prejudice. Except those of the Supreme Father, all prejudices are bonds. Your fate is what is just beyond the range of your vision and knowledge – the not-seen, the not-known – hence is fate as you say. Throw off your proud, stupid, Satan ‘I’. Move on the will of the Supreme Father. Fate can do nothing. The will of the Supreme Father is fate. In your every condition just try to understand His blissful will. You will see, grief can’t touch you; rather, strength will come in your heart and even in sorrow you will find bliss. Don’t break down thinking about fate. Work on! Don’t be idle! For just as you work, so is your fate unfurled to your vision. The doer of good never fares ill. He gets his rewards sooner or later. With eyes on the Supreme Father, work on! His Will is fate. Don’t sit foolishly making fate anything else. Many people leave their rudder, sit non-plussed and think they are without a destiny. Having no reliance, they ultimately pass their whole lives in distress. That is foolishness. When your ‘you’ leaves, fate is finished. Then there is no seeing, so no unseen.
Move forward! But don’t try to measure how far you have gone, lest you fall back again. Feel, but be not overwhelmed, lest you be unable to proceed. If overwhelmed you must be, be so with love for God. Serve as much as you are able. But take care you have no desire to be served. Request, but do not seek to order. Never speak ill of others, but indulge in no untruth. Be patient, but in being so, don’t become and idle procrastinator. Be swift, but don’t spoil everything by your unwise annoyance. Be brave, but not like a tiger or bear – cruel. Be firmly resolved, but do not become obstinate. Bear all yourself. Help him who cannot bear; hate him not but encourage and sympathize. Be miserly to praise yourself, but for others be lavish. First embrace him with whom you are angry, invite him to eat in your own home, send gifts, and until you can speak to him with an open heart, pray with repentance for his good to God; for from hatred you will gradually become narrow, and
narrowness is sin. If anyone do an injustice to you and you must at all take revenge, behave with him in such a way that it may make him repentant. There is no revenge like that repentance – the fire made of husks. It is blissful to both. Do not abolish friendship; otherwise, in your distress you will get neither sympathy nor consolation. Even if your friend be dishonest, do not give him up; rather give up his company if necessary. But with affection in your heart help him in his distress and danger, in thought, word and deed. And embrace him when you find he has become repentant. If your friend has gone astray and you do not try to bring him back, or if you give him up, its punishment will not forsake you either. Do not spread scandal about your friend. Don’t speak ill of him in any way. But also, do not indulge him in any of his faults. Be not arrogant to a friend, but punish him with love and affectionate dignity. Bear no expectation from a friend, but receive with love whatever you may get. Give, but hope not for any return. For anything received, try to reciprocate.
As long as you feel pain in your body and mind, keep trying to remove the pain of even an ant. If you don’t do this, who is there more deficient than you? If you get a slap on your face and can say, “Who is beating whom?” then say that for another. Well and good. But beware! If you can’t think like this in your own case, don’t talk like this in the case of another. If you become secular at the time of your own difficulties, don’t feign to be spiritual at eh time of others’. Rather, be spiritual at the time of your own difficulties and secular at that of others’; even such a pretension is good. If you be a man, you’ll laugh at your own grief and weep at that of others. If you dislike your own death, never say ‘die’ to thers.
Laugh, but not in ridicule. Weep; not from self-addiction but from love, devotion. Speak, but for neither self-aggrandizement nor fame. Do not hide from a man any example of your character if it be beneficial to him. Let your goodness roll out in deeds. But see that it does not come out in words. Attach your inclination to good; you will become good unconsciously. Be absorbed in good ideas in your own way. Your feelings will bloom accordingly to your attitude. As evil thoughts are revealed through eyes, words, dealings, behavior etc., so too good thoughts express themselves in the same way.
Be out-spoken but sweet. Consider before you speak, but having spoken, do not evade. If you have spoken wrong, beware! Do not do wrong. Speak the truth, but don’t bring destruction. It is good to speak good, but better to think and feel it. Surely it is better to speak enlivening words than deadening ones. But what is the use if they are not carried into action and feelings at the same time? The violin and guitar play well by the grace of player but cannot feel anything themselves. He who speaks much of realization but shows no indication of it froths only. All his big talks are imaginary. The deeper you dive, the more unrecognizable you are. As the pomegranate bursts open just as it ripens, so the honest thought within you when mature will burst forth of itself. You need not show it by words.
Pursue only that whim which follows conscience – you must achieve bliss. Merge yourself in expansion, but don’t be extinguished. Expansion is life! Expansion is love! The work which brings expansion or growth in the mind is honest work. That which brings superstition, prejudice, etc. in the mind – in a word, that which brings narrowness – is evil work. Don’t do that work which makes your face gloomy when you speak of it to others. Usually, where there is concealment out of hatred, shyness or fear, there weakness is, there sin is. Do that avowed activity which brings love in your heart, and don’t go near what brings cruelty, harshness and violence, even though temporarily profitable. Though ou have gained such powers that you can move the sun and the moon from their courses, can break the earth into pieces or make all people wealthy, but if you have no love in your heart, you have achieved nothing.
Out of one don’t ask for ten. Try perfectly for the one; you shall get all. Surely you will gain life in the manner in which you give it. He who gives his life for love gains a life of love. Be inspired by your purpose and with serene mind forbear all. Then only shall your purpose be fulfilled.
Give your heart. You need never retreat. Rely, and you shall never be frightened. Believe. You shall master the world within. Encourage, and try not to arouse fear. Have patience, danger will be crossed over. Be not vain. You shall not have to remain humiliated in the world. Confess your fault in anguish before you are accused. You shall remain untarnished, an object of affection to the world. Be restrained but fearless. Be simple but not foolish. Be obedient, but for that don’t be weak-hearted.
Remain steady, but don’t become rigid. Don’t pose as a holy man; try to become one. Don’t compare yourself with a Great Soul, but try to follow Him always. Call others ‘mine’ if there is love in you, not out of selfishness. Just love before you speak of love.
To be blind is unfortunate indeed but to be without a staff is even worse; for the staff does much of the eyes’ work. Going to school only doesn’t make a student, and taking initiation only doesn’t make a disciple. The heart should always be kept open to carry out the orders of the Master or Teacher. Have firm faith within. Whatever He says must be done and that without objection or excuse – rather, with the greatest pleasure. The student or disciple who gives his all in carrying out the orders of the Master with pleasure is never disappointed. The disciple’s duty is to materialize the commands of his Master and to move on, taking Him as the Ideal. Whenever you find that on getting any command from is Master the disciple is pleased and his face blooms, you will know that strength has come in his heart.
Be on your guard and do not serve your Master through servants or by ordering anyone else. Don’t be deprived of bliss. Disregard for children never appears in the mother’s heart because she cares for them with her own hands; hence her love is so great. In serving the Master with one’s own hands pride becomes light, conceit goes away and love grows. The Master is the materialized form of Bliss, and He is the Absolute. One must take the Master as one’s own. When one thinks of mother, father, son etc., His face should also appear in the mind. It is better to fear His love than His scolding – if I do any wrong, He will be pained in His heart. Always try to follow Him. Obey carefully what He says, and try unceasingly to plant that by practice in your character. That is ‘sadhana’.
Be zealous for self-elevation and devote yourself to the Master or Truth. Be not attracted to what others are saying about you; otherwise, you will become attached to it and fail to have self-elevation. A selfish spirit often induces one to blame the Ideal, to doubt and to lose faith. Don’t look for faults in the Ideal from a selfish spirit and don’t doubt and don’t lose faith. If you do, there’ll be no self-elevation. But if being free of selfish spirit you find faults in a person, that person is no Ideal. Don’t follow him. If you do, there’ll be no self-elevation. He in whom infatuated pride, selfish thoughts, a lack of love exist is no Ideal. And he in whom doubt, faithlessness, and a selfish spirit exist is no follower. Follow, without hesitation, Him who is the possessor of love. You shall surely achieve your good! Follow Him alone who doesn’t cause grief to anyone in any way, yet doesn’t indulge evil. You shall achieve your good!
Don’t conceal anything in your heart from Him whom you have chosen as your Guide. To conceal is to disbelieve Him and that disbelief brings downfall. “The Guide is the Regulator of hearts.” If you believe it rightly, you will be humble to do evil. And if you have already done evil, you will confess it surely! But if you want to conceal, be sure that weakness has come in your heart and you are already attacked by disbelief. Be careful, or it may carry you far far away. If you conceal, your true Guide will also hide Himself. If you express the thoughts in your heart – become open – then for sure He also will be open before you! If, with the intention of concealing from your Guide, you use the trick: “You regulate my heart and you know everything”, you will fail and be surrounded by miseries. Exchange of hearts is a sign of love. If you conceal your heart, it is sure, you posses selfish desires. You love Him only in words. There is concealment in lust but there can be nothing concealed in love! The true Guide has a light ego. He will never assert His own strength to you by Himself, and so will follow you according to your thought. This is the characteristic of a true Guide. If you really have a true Guide, whatever you do, no fear. You cannot be destroyed. Only keep prepared for sufferings.
To be humble does not mean to be untidy. Display does not imply eagerness. Rather, it is excessive unrestrained expectation of the heart. Selfishness is not self-dependence or independence, rather, its opposite. The more you serve people, the more you become the master of all they have. To be spirited does not mean to be in a fury. Rather, it is firmness coupled with modesty. A holy man is no magician; rather, a renunciator, a lover. Does a devotee mean a fool? Rather, a wise man with humble pride. To forbear does not mean to retreat, but to embrace with love.
Pardon, but with the heart. Filled with rage, don’t forgive out of incapacity. Do not judge and punish on your own. But place it wholeheartedly before the Supreme Father; that will be good. If you punish anyone for his misdeed, surely the Supreme Father will mete out the punishment proportionately to you both. Suffer for the Supreme Father, for the Truth; you will enjoy eternal peace. Do dwell in Truth, try to forbear injustice and resist not what you have to forbear. You shall soon achieve good in the highest.
If you have committed any sin, confess it in anguish. You shall be consoled soon. Be careful! Do not suppress narrowness or sin. If you do, it will increase gradually and quickly lead you to extreme degradation. Whatever of evil you suppress within will increase.
Give, but with humbleness and without expectation. Let the door of kindness in your heart be open. To give, counting it to be kindness, is a patron of vanity. Be grateful to Him who, as Master, receives your gift with humility to awaken the feeling of kindness in your heart. Encourage, console, and sympathize with him to whom you give, feeling his grief. Then according to your ability, give with kindness. Love will be achieved. Your gift will be effective. The less you drum about your giving, the better. You will be saved from vanity. Don’t refuse anyone who wants. Money, sympathy, encouragement, consolation, or sweet words: give any you can. The heart will become soft. The desire for the good of others is the mother of one’s own good.
It is better to die at toil than on the toilet. He who does as he speaks is a first class worker. He who speaks less and does more is a second class worker. He who speaks more but does less is a third class worker, and he who, out of laziness, neither speaks nor does is of the worst type. Run, but don’t pant, and watch you don’t stumble. Should you feel aversion or anger in doing any work, know for sure, it is on the verge of failure. Be ready against the difficulties that arise at the time of executing a work. Don’t be dissatisfied or impatient. Success will be your servant. Try and don’t be gloomy; don’t be sorrowful! Success must come! Delirium of distress is not a sign of the skilful. Haughty brain and vain, pompous thoughts are both signs of unsuccess. Gain success by avoiding or defeating misfortune, and see that difficulties do not cheat you of success. If neither joy nor sorrow hinders your movement, you shall without doubt reach your goal.
Be wealthy, no harm. But be humble and charitable. If a rich man be proud, he becomes downed with distress. A rich man, arrogant and proud, generally lacks faith, and the doors of heaven do not open in his heart. A proud rich man is a slave to impurities; so he ignores wisdom.
Forgive, but do not harm by indulging. Love, but be not addicted. Love deeply, but mix not too familiarly. Bubbling is not the sign of fullness. If you are contented and free from anxiety yourself, try for others. The more the mind is overwhelmed by being attached to the cause of grief, the more will fear enter within and weaken the heart. If you wish to be saved, have no fear – no weakness. Be absorbed in enlivening thoughts and deeds. Addiction to evil begets fear, grief and sorrow. Give up what is against existence. Have faith is ‘Sat’ (Sadguru). You shall be saved. Be immersed in enlivening thoughts; enlivening deeds will be your helpers, and your surroundings, being enlivened, shall surely always save you.
To know Dharma is to know the root cause of anything, and to know that is wisdom. Attachment towards the Source is devotion, and wisdom is in proportion to the degree of devotion. Devotion and wisdom will be as much as is gained through that attachment. As much as you are attached to a subject, so much wisdom do you have about that subject. The purpose of life is to drive away ‘want’ completely, and that is possible only by knowing the Cause. Exhausted in want, the mind seeks Dharma or the Supreme Being; otherwise not. “What will remove ‘want’, and how? From this thought the question of the Supreme Being arises at last. What upholds the existence of an object is Dharma. So long as that remains unknown, nothing is known exactly.
The conception that cannot be affected or overwhelmed by contradictory conception is Faith. If there be no faith, how can there be vision? Work follows faith. As the faith, so the work. Deep faith can do anything. Believe! But beware that pride, impatience or irritation do not come in. You shall achieve what you want. It is faith alone that can bring expansion and responsive consciousness. And doubt brings in sluggishness, irresponsiveness and depression. Faith is above reason. If you have faith, all reasoning shall support you. As you believe, so will reasoning and arguments support you.
Feeling is the foundation of faith. Arguments and reason can never bring faith. The lighter the feeling, the shallower the faith, the less the constancy. Faith is beyond the range of intellect. Intellect is according to faith. There is ‘yes’ or ‘no’ in intellect – there is doubt. In faith, there is no ‘yes’ or ‘no’ – there is no doubt.
The less the faith, the more undeveloped and blunt the intellect. You may be a learned man; but if lacking in faith, surely you are no better than a gramophone record or an ox carrying a load of words. He who has no unquivering faith has no realization. And how can he who has no realization be wise? As much one’s realization, so much one’s vision and wisdom, and in wisdom is the firmness of faith. If you don’t believe, you neither see nor realize, and if you see and realize, it ripens your faith.
As is the Ideal in whom you place faith, so will your nature be formed and your vision too will be like that. Follow the faithful. Love him. Faith will embrace you too. “I have no faith”: with this idea man only shrinks his faith. There is not a man who has no faith. As deep and lofty the faith, so high the mind, so profound the life. He who believes in goodness becomes good. He who believes in delivery becomes devilish.
Whenever faith is invaded by contradictory ideas, doubts arise. As soon as faith is overwhelmed by doubts which are again supported by the mind, depression sets in. If one gives up contrary ideas, hears and accepts arguments favouring faith, doubts vanish and depression cannot stand. No contrary thoughts can shake the faith after it has ripened. What can doubts or lethargy do to a true believer? Once doubt is indulged, it attacks the mind like a weevil, and ultimately it begets an extremely worn-out, dirty state of disbelief. To remove doubt and establish faith is to attain knowledge. If you have firm truth, no contrary idea, no incantation, no power other than that of your own faith can overwhelm or bewitch you. Know this for sure. As far off as faith will leave your mind, so much the world will doubt you and lose faith in you, and so much too will distress attack you; it is sure! The kingdom of distress and misery is in the land of disbelief. The land of faith is so fertile. Take care! If you find doubt-like sprouts of the weeds of disbelief, pull them out at once! Otherwise the immortal tree of devotion will not be able to grow. Devotion and faith are twin brothers. If one comes, the other follows. Remove doubt! Place devotion on the throne of faith! Let the kingdom of Heaven be established in your heart! The effort to remain constantly attached to ‘Sat’ (the Source of Existence Incarnate) is ‘bhakti’ (devotion). The devoted is the really wise man. Wisdom without devotion in merely verbal learning. You may say, “He is I”, or “I am He, the Absolute”, but hold on the devotion; then only, that attitude will stand in you. Otherwise, you can achieve nothing by it. As the faith, so the love, and so the wisdom also. First try to be free from vanity; then say, “He is I”. Otherwise, the “He is I” may drag you down more. If you try to keep adhered to enlivening thoughts, your thought, behaviour, habits etc. will become broad and true gradually. These are the signs of a devotee. The mind becomes narrow when it moves to the narrow; when it moves to the expansive, it expands. So, when it goes to a devotee, it broadens, and as much broadness as there is, so much peace there is.
When the mind is fastened to worldly things, it is addiction. When it is attached to the Divine, it is devotion. Love is the gradual development of devotion. Concentration of devotion is love. The thinner the pride, the bigger the place for devotion. How can one succeed in avowed activity without devotion? Devotion alone can bring success. As faith is never blind, do devotion is never stupid. In no way, at no time, is there weakness in devotion. Imbecility and weakness often appear in the garb of devotion. Beware of this.
Exciting oneself in bouncings and pouncings or a little weeping on the impulse of dancing or singing etc. is sometimes taken for devotion. But this is not devotion at all. Momentary excess of emotion and outburst is not the sign of a devotee. There must be some sign of thin ego, sign of faith, signs of honest thought, good behaviour and broadness etc. in the character and conduct of a devotee; otherwise, devotion has not come. If there is not faith, there can be no adherence, and without adherence there can be no devotion! Vacilating, excessive ecstasy sometimes appears as devotion. Constancy is not there, and there is no telling sign of devotion He in whose heart there lies devotion cannot know he is a devotee. He whose heart is weak, inconstant and only emotional, thinks with great pride, “I am a great devotee.”It is not that devotion has appeared wherever tears, thrills of joy, perspiration and tremors have come. Along with these, devotion must have it own characteristic signs. Tears, thrills of ecstasy, perspiration, tremors etc. are signs of emotion that can be of many types. If, along with these signs of devotion, appear the characteristic ones of that state, then only is it a sign of the ‘sattvic’ state – the state of divine life and good feelings.
Crtificial devotion is mixed with stiff ego. Real devotion is free from pride; i.e., it has a very thin pride. A man with counterfeit devotion cannot TAKE advice. Adviser-like, he can only GIVE advice. So if anyone advises him, signs of irritation, aversion and shirking the company, appear clearly on his face. The man with real devotion is generally quite unwilling to play the part of an adviser and signs of pleasure blossom on his face if he gets advice. Devotion can never enter the heart of one who believes little and worships many. Devotion loves many for the One. Addiction loves the One for many. In addition there is gratification from self-interest. In devotion there is satisfaction from interests for others. Devotion is concentric to the Source. Addiction seeks satiety in self-interest or ego. Addiction is the wife of passion, and devotion is the younger sister of love. What is known by realization is wisdom. To know is to reach the Absolute through discernment, and that is ‘Veda’. Veda is the in divisible whole. To the extent one knows, one is a Vedist. Wisdom destroys confusion and gives discerning eyes to man. Wisdom indicates the real nature of n object. When one sees an object in a condition that reveals all that is to be known about it, one knows its very essence. Devotion tries to attach the mind to Truth, and what is realized from that is called wisdom. Ignorance creates anxiety for man, and wisdom gives man peace. Ignorance is the cause of grief, and knowledge is bliss. The greater your wisdom, the greater your peace of mind. As your experience is, so is your strength to live normally.
The more rigid the ego, the greater the ignorance. The lighter the pride, the brighter the knowledge. Doubt is the messenger of disbelief, and disbelief is the shelter of ignorance. Remove doubts the moment they appear, and merge yourself in thought of the good. You shall become the possessor of wisdom and bliss. Wicked thoughts create heinous experience, ignorance or delusion. Give them up! You shall be saved from grief. The more addicted you are to the evil, the more obsessed you will be by selfish interest and overpowered by evil knowledge or delusion. And disease, grief, poverty and death shall rule over you; it is sure!
Obsessed ego brings forth addiction. Addiction breeds selfish interest. Selfish interest gives birth to passion. Passion is the source of anger, and anger begets violence. Devotion brings wisdom. In wisdom there is the sensing of self in creation. When there is this realization of self in creation, nonviolence emerges, and from nonviolence comes love. To the extent you possess any, you possess all.
From obsessed ego comes addiction. From addiction comes ignorance, and ignorance is misery. From doubt comes disbelief, and disbelief is dullness. From idleness comes stupidity, and stupidity is ignorance. Thwarted lust is anger, and anger is the friend of violence. The intention to satisfy passionate selfish interest is itself greediness, and this greediness is addiction. He who is not greedy is not addicted.
No cunning is so good as simple honesty. Any person, whatever he may be, must be caught in this trap: “Honesty is the best policy.” There is nothing so fascinating as humility. What else is so attractive as love? There is no achievement greater than faith. There is no eye like wisdom. There is nothing else to subdue vanity better than hearty humility. What sacred formula is there like carrying out the commands of the Living Ideal? Move on! Go ahead! Don’t get tired thinking about the path, or you won’t be able to move.
He who has jumped first and shown the way first is the leader. Can empty words alone make a leader? At first, give up your all for others. Sell out your self at the feet of others. Forget to reckon the faults of others as faults. Be self-less in service. Then you are a leader; then you are the heart of your country, the king of your country. Otherwise, all this won’t be achieved by words alone. If you wish to be a leader, give up charm of leadership, give up self-praise, stake your everything for the good of others, show them by doing yourself what is blissful and true, and speak of that to others with love. You will see how thousands will follow you.
Rely and work on with boldness and indomitable enthusiasm. Beware that no misfortune come from anything in you to yourself or others. You shall find how the goddess of good fortune is tied down stationed in your house. It is said, “Fortune favors the brave.” That’s right. Faith, reliance and sacrifice : these three are the signs of bravery.
The longing for name and fame is a tremendous obstacle to self-elevation. After a little progress you make, you’ll find some have come to find a Master in you; some are calling you a ‘great man’; some, ‘prophet’ etc.; on the other hand, some are calling you ‘satan’ or ‘scoundrel’; some ‘a professional’ etc. Beware! Pay no heed to any of them. They are all ghosts to you. If they are heeded, they will sit tight on your shoulders, and it will be very difficult to get them off. Work on in your own way, come what may. If, under the hope of name and fame, your mind behaves like that of a devotee, hypocrisy is hidden therein. Strike it out at once! Only then comes good. Otherwise, everything will be spoiled. If you desire to be Master, Prophet or God, you will certainly become a hypocrite, and due to that you will not be able to do anything practically, even though you speak volumes. If your wish is such, give it up at once! Otherwise misfortune is sure.
To the extent you are genuine, Nature shall honour you with endowments and provide you with Her appropriate privileges. You see this every day; then, what more do you want? Just try wholeheartedly to be genuine. Does the university honour anyone with a degree unless he has studied and passed? Don’t propagate yourself, even by mistake, and don’t request anyone to do it for you. Then everyone will hate you and will leave you. If you really have known some truth and if you think it is beneficial, speak to your utmost about it and request everyone to know it. If they understand, they will listen and follow you. If you have seen and understand Truth, it will surely burst forth in your thought, word and deed. You will know no rest until you are lost in it. Can darkness cover the sun?
If there is no truth in you, you may speak a thousand times, even show a thousand tricks, pretend in a thousand ways; still the light of truth will not effulge in your mind, character and words. If there is no sun, a million lamps can’t take away all the darkness. Propagating a truth, who speaks about his greatness, who is always busy with himself, who tries to show himself beautiful by various tricks and whose pride bursts forth in every movement – in love, in words, in reliance – however vastly learned he may be and however much he may speak about wisdom and devotion – he is a hypocrite for sure. Stay far away from him. Don’t listen to his words. There is no truth in his heart. How can feeling appear if there is no truth in mind? Vanity in preaching is a hindrance to real preaching. A real preacher doesn’t, even by mistake, speak of his own greatness, observes Truth in deed, and charmed by the honest thought in his mind, speaks about it according to his own conviction. Whenever you’ll find anyone is speaking about Truth with the pride of conviction, has become restless with pleasure and humility while speaking about kindness, is calling and embracing all with love and emotion, and instead of yielding at the moment he is told of his own greatness, becomes pale, humble, and crest-fallen as it were – know it verily – there lies blazing Truth in him and there you will find in his normal character too that Truth is ablaze. Do light the lamp of Truth with the wick of wisdom soaked in the oil of devotion! You will see how you will be surrounded by so many grasshoppers and insects, so many beasts and men. He who thinks of the Source of Existence only, speaks of the Source only, and loves Him only is the real preacher. If there is no deep faith in the Ideal, there is no constancy, no devotion. And if there is no devotion, how can there be realization? How can there be wisdom? What will be preach? The pride of a real preacher is his Ideal. The pride of a false preacher lies in self-preaching. When your heart will heave
up with bursting zeal to speak what you know as good, what you know as Truth – with the mind unaffected by what people say about you, but feeling pleasure if you find men inclined towards Truth – that is preaching. Without real faith, constancy, and devotion, you can never be a real preacher.
He who preaches himself deprives himself. He who, enchanted with the Ideal, speaks about Him does really preach himself. The real preacher alone is the true well-wisher of the world. Limitless is the number of creatures that may find self-elevation through his kindness. Be charmed with the Ideal. Feeling will swell up in your heart spontaneously, and there is no knowing how many people will progress, being inspired by that feeling. Don’t desire to be the Master; rather, try to be an adherent to Him. And one adhered to the Master is the real saviour of lives.
As long as body lasts, individuality also will last. So long as modes of mind remain, the ego persists. But the more passive one can remain, placing one’s pride in the Ideal, the more self-less and tolerant he is. The less you brag of ‘you’, the better. The more you pride in the Ideal, the greater your good. Let the Supreme Father be your pride and enjoy bliss through Him. Don’t place your pride in a false ideal; for then you ego will become even harder. The higher and broader the Ideal, the better. For, as high and broad your Ideal is, so high and broad you too become.
Whenever you find people – specially the respectable – are bowing down at your feel and it doesn’t elicit any great objection in you (you are sometimes hesitant with your words only, but not so much in your mind), know then and there for certain that self-adulation has stealthily entered your mind. Beware as soon as you can. Otherwise, you will fall for sure. Whenever anyone has bowed down at your feet and at once you head bows with humility and the mind is not ready at all to take service, rather it is eager to give service, and pleasure is felt in the heart only in speaking about the Ideal – no fear, you are in the lap of Bliss and always try to remain even more so.
Take to the habit of the creeper and entwine yourself around the tree of the Ideal; fulfillment of desire shall be yours. If you feel pleasure in speaking about you Ideal, pleasure in hearing and thinking about Him, pleasure in His order, pleasure in His affection, pleasure even in His inattention, and the heart swells up in His Name; I tell you surely, don’t worry any more for your elevation. Take to the feet of a true Master, go on taking the Holy Name, and remain in the company of the devout. Truly I say, you have no more to worry for your elevation. Leave not the water of devotion and move not too far away to the sandy shores of temptation. It will be difficult to return when the sand will be hot from the scorching sun of grief. If you don’t come back before it gets hot, you will dry up and die. Try to remain inclined towards devoted feeling; you will not fall, but will be moving forward. Try to be in tune with the Master, and don’t follow your mind; progress will never leave you. Cling to right judgment, and don’t follow the mind; broadness will never desert you. Hold unto the Good and follow not evil; peace will never part from you. Let humility find an abode in the heart – vanity will mean nothing for you. Don’t long for, or be attached to, that which must be forsaken; you will be saved from grief.
Pray for love and keep violence far away; the world must be attracted to you. May thou be ascetic at heart. Dress not thyself as a hermit, and be not chameleon-like for nothing. et thy mind roam about on the Source or Brahma, but be not busy to dress thyself in saffron robes or to paint the body; for then the mind may incline to these things. Give up pride, you shall be able to remain in Good. Make the fallen hear the message of rescue! Give hope; by hook or by crook, try to help them towards elevation. Encourage, but let them not be wanton. If ever, after giving your all to your Beloved, you are immersed in Him and have fears of floating up, then do dive at once with all your ardour and love, and lose yourself. You will see how beautiful is the Beloved and how He has embraced you. If the slightest public criticism, ridicule, inclination to relatives, loss of self-interest, neglect, or abuse from one’s own or others can make you aloof from your Beloved, how shameful is your love, how meager! Isn’t it so? If you understand a thing today, don’t you tomorrow deny the same, calling it a riddle. Don’t play fox like that. Because, even the lower animals do not forget what they once understand. So to speak like this is to display fickleness or wickedness. Today you are benefited. Tomorrow, blinded by selfish interest you pretend to be wronged: don’t invite such ingratitude. What is meaner than this? Ask anyone. Unless one is a fool, one cannot be induced, by slander from the benefited, to blame the benefactor. When the helper is harmed by the helped, stupid pride breaks the bolt of gratitude and throws open the path of death strewn over the thorns of arrogance. Treachery pursues him who considers the shelter ugly because of any disrepute of the sheltered ones. Unfeeling and unbenefitting activities for the Beloved are never the signs telling love. One not desiring to do anything for the Beloved, yet loving much, is like a bronze dove made of gold. The selfish in spirit generally love like that. So it is better to guard against this sort of disinterested love. Otherwise, there is every possibility of danger. You love? But when the Beloved insists, influences, rules, insults, makes angry pretences or forces; and you, rather than feeling pleasure, suffer from the reverse, and all your happiness washes away; I say, you will cheat and be cheated, surely. And this will continue as long as you are such. So, while there is time, take care. The charm of love – increases with hindrance, causes no hatred to grow when oppressed by the Beloved, becomes vigorous in separation, doesn’t stupefy a man, remains for ever unsatisfied, never leaves once it has touched, and is unchangeable. The infatuation of lust – decays if hindered, arouses hatred if oppressed by the desired one or if one doesn’t get as expected, makes one forgetful in separation and cowardly and stupid, brings satiety and depression in enjoyment, doesn’t last long – it is changeable. Be venerable but no insufferable. If you like to charm, be charmed completely. If you like to be beautiful, see beauty even in the ugly. The beauty and meaningfulness of life lies in being devoted to One with intensity and continuity. When liking for many cannot shake or sever the liking for One, that liking is the sister of love. Better be attached to the true Master than being shattered by the consideration of good and evil. You shall safely achieve success. It is sure! As the time of weakness think of beauty and strength, and when vanity seeks to posses you, think of the Beloved and of humility. Mental health will remain undisturbed. Don’t be spoiled by seeing
faults, and don’t spoil those who are attached to you. Give to Him. Don’t want, but feel blessed if you get. Surrender to His will. Don’t try to make Him yield to you, because He alone is beautiful to you. Never give up the craving for Union. Otherwise, the pang of separation will not be sweet, and you will not be able to feel peace in distress. As much as is your thought, activity, feeling for One, so much is your inclination, charm, and love for Him, and in the same way. He alone to whom you have surrendered your all is your Lord – you Guide Supreme.
Don’t regret for not having without doing in the way you can have. To become sad without doing invites a ‘not-to-get’. To get, whatever it might be, one must learn how to get it and do that exactly. Is there anything more foolish than to become impatient to get without doing? Know it for sure – “Doing is the mother of getting.” Only when doing is in accordance with desire does success appear. The desired good of man remains hidden beneath his habitual superstitions, and the Giver of Good is punished only when conflict appears between the Goodness He gives and the habitual superstitions. So the saviour is slandered in His own country. Nature reproaches those who would approach the Unsensed – with neglect and rejection of what is Sensed. Those for whom the Seen is coloured or humiliated by the Unseen are deceived.
That which being developed and becoming everything, yet remains the same, is ‘Brahma’. He within whom all the resources of the world – knowledge love and activity – pontaneous, and by the inclination towards whom the scattered lives of men and all the diversities of the world find a final solution, is the God of men! To know God is to know all or the Whole. He whose intense and active inclination for a Living Ideal, transcending time and space, has made Him into God normally; whose literature, philosophy and science, penetrating the scattered good and evil prejudices of the mind, have been meaningfully adjusted in the Ideal, is the true Master. He whose mind is filled with attachment for One, or the Truth, is honest or chaste. To adhere the mind thoroughly to the Ideal is called Holiness. When the
mind is absorbed completely in conceiving anything thoroughly, it is called deep mediation or ‘Samadhi’. Repetition of the Name make man keen, and Meditation or ‘Dhyan’ makes him calm and receptive. To remain enganged in any single thought and to feel that which distracts but cannot break our continuity is ‘Dhyan’ or Meditation. To be displeased means to be scattered. Be keen but calm. You will feel everything. Attachment to One or concentrated inclination is called ‘Yoga’. That which, being opposed by something, wants to establish itself is ‘self’. To make the ego stiff is not to know others. Those who are satisfied with meaningful solution through meditating observation are ‘Rishis’, Sages or Seers. The solving and untying of all kinds of knots of the mind so that they become meaningful in One
– is Salvation. The ideas and activities that lead man towards the Cause are Spiritualism. The decision by which the Inner Cause is made to blossom is real Judgment. That analysis which determines the real form of the object aimed at is Reason. The painful feeling that arises from a judgment of the merits and demerits of a completed act, and causes abstention from evil, is Repentance. The Place on going to which the knots of the mind are untied and solved is ‘Tirtha’ – place of Pilgrimage. Doing that which preserves existence is Virtue. Doing that which makes one fall from existence is Sin. That which exists and has expansion is Real. That to conceive which the mind retains its being is Finite. That to conceive which the mind loses itself is Infinite!

Yajan

The main purpose of yajan is to establish the ideal and to fulfill His interest and this means to do good to all. It is possible to accomplish it only if we make the Ideal who is the embodiment of good the object of our meditation. Meditation on Him and moving in accordance with Him lead us in the direction of becoming. So yajan involves repetition of Holy Name, meditation, devout worship, self-analysis, self-adjustment, practice of hygienic principles, study of His Holy Messages, carrying out resolves, atonement and prayer. To thus make oneself completely to His liking is sadhana or the process of actualizing the principles of life and growth. In Yajan the main factors are repetition of the Holy Name and meditation and materialization of the commands of the Lord in proper time. In Sri Sri Thakur’s words : To meditate at dead of night and dawn, To repeat the Name always while moving on, To work out in time the commands of the Lord This is called tapasya in a word. ( Translated from Bengali Anushruti, Vol 1 Chapter Sadhana – 27 ) Through meditation and repetition of the Holy Name, the brain cells are stimulated and gradually become more responsive, thus the sharpness of the senses is increased. Yajan means , “ to regulate oneself in an uplifting go by whole-heartedly and with an Ideal-minded attitude fulfilling the principles of life and growth.” ( Sri Sri Thakur – Pather Kari – 242) The greater responsiveness is attained by repetition of the Holy Name and this enables one in meditation to relate all sorts of ideas that come into the mind with the Ideal, and thus to direct oneself towards fulfillment.

Yaajan
To infuse one’s Ideal-heartedness into others is called yaajan. To try for one’s own upliftment while neglecting that of others brings failure in life. In Yaajan the Ideal is central, for it is only through Him that Dharma can be offered to others. To offer Dharma means to teach the principles of life and lift, and the embodiment of life and growth is the Ideal- the greatest fulfiller. The main function of yaajan is to form in man a link of unfailing love for Him through service, sympathy and discussion. Yaajan activates all parts of the brain and dissolves the knot of obsessions. Through Ideal-centric words and activity, a man’s regard and devotion grow. All his scattered feelings, ideas and reasonings become adjusted towards the one Ideal, as a result his common sense develops.

Istabhrity
Istabhrity is the offering of something for the nourishment of the Ideal. It is this that makes one’s initiation alive.

Sri Sri Thakur says, “ The first oblation to Him in daily life, offered with the united eagerness of body and mind being concentric in the Ideal, with desire for earning only in order to feed Him, is called Istabhrity”.

It is a fact that if one follows this practice with adherence and regard, failure can never come into his life. Early each morning after meditation and repetition of the Holy Name, and before eating or drinking anything, one should offer as much as he can. Carefully saving up his oblations, he should sent them on the thirtieth day to the place of the Lord.

Sri Sri Thakur assures us If Yajan, Yaajan, Istabhrity is done, Great fear will be overcome. And Istabhrity, He says, is our most powerful means of resisting the forces of cataclysm.
